Getting Catless downpipes and tune, get new air filter and plugs ?
Have watched a few clips online and they sound pretty damn loud. Was thinking of adding some resonators to tune it back to near stock sound. Rentech even said they stopped doing Catless because too many complaints about noise and smell. I dont care about the smell, used to no cats on previous cars.
Also do you guys know how much heat they add ? Is it a real problem ? Considering wrapping them. No time to coat them.
Also read on here that I should replace plugs. Anyone know the stock part number for the 2014 CLS63 AMG ? Was planning on gapping to .022. Sounds like they went a step colder on the 2014s from the factory. Is it true you really need to TQ them exactly right to fire properly ?
Lastly debating on air filter. Weistec offers a really pricey one for $300 K&N has one for $99 . No MAF sensor to worry about. Not sure if its low profile like the Weistec though.
Appreciate any input or advise from you guys. Thanks !

Is there really a smell from catless downpipes on our cars? I vaguely recall somebody claiming there wasn't in another thread. I note you're in Cali also. I'm going to research downpipes with the aim of finding some that are easy to swap in/out for smog checks. Anyone have any suggestions? I'm all for noise (since I have remote valve-controlled mufflers) but smell is a deal killer.

Consider the UPD air intake kit, it is a high flow filter and a spacer to reduce resistance to air flow.

Congrats! I'm sure you'll continue to enjoy it.
This is my first car with catless pipes. I had heard that some folks smell fuel idling at lights or in traffic, with windows down, or when standing outside of the car when it's running...my car checks each of these boxes. I don't mind it, however. Sounds is loud at WOT, but I do enjoy that part.
Good luck with your mods!

+1 echo above comment.
My personal experience and from what I read on the forum, I would change the spark plugs. I'm running stock plugs (stock gap) and planning on replacing them every 10-15K miles. As for filters, I'm running AFE PRO DRY S filters.

here is my E55 noise on the dyno
and here is e63 with cateless downpipes on dyno at renntech
i dont have c63 dyno vid but it was way louder as you can hear in parking lot vid
smell, a little but again not near as bad as the smell was on my e55/c63 with lth/ cateless
air fiiter forget the weistec one and get the upb cold air intake box spacer filter combo... they have produced real world dyno gains of 15-20 whp and wont break the bank like the ams intake
and yes plugs have to be indexed properly

yeah its definitely pretty tame... trust me, your E55 was way louder as i had same EC LTH's you had on my e55 and way louder, so if you go dp's on e63 it wont sound too loud to you... for me, my c63 was too loud and e63 too quite... i think e55 with LTH's/no cats was just the right loudness

Got the MBH downpipes in today.Super nice quality. Doesn't include tabs for hangers and the pipe presses up on the under carriage on one side. No rattling or anything inside so it seems to be fine. Will need to add hangers later. I did get a good deal on them so I am not complaining.
Amazingly enough, driving around town and on freeway it doesnt seem louder than stock. When you really open it up it has a little deeper growl inside the car. Outside it was quite loud when they drove by WOT. I never heard it stock to compare. No need to add resonators or anything like I thought I would. I dont hear the turbos as much as some videos I have seen online. Perhaps they had the bridge pipe done as well. I didnt really understand what that pipe was until today when he was putting it in. Looks like it would make a pretty big difference. Notice faster spool and car is more responsive. No real odor issue IMO.
Overall very happy with them on the car.
