So my car's factory warranty end Sep 25th. I got a quote of $4600 for 5 year/75k miles but what I don't understand is supposedly the 5 years starts from the original in service date which really means i get only a year from the time i buy the warranty and roughly 30k miles as I currently have about 45k on it. Is this really how these extended warranties work? It just doesn't make sense but i confirmed this with the finance guy at the dealer.

I purchased a policy from Fidelity. This is the company that Audi uses for their dealer aftermarket program. You can get your car serviced at MB dealer or an indy and still be covered.

I had terrible experience with Fidelity with my C63 AMG that a Mercedes dealer sold me years ago. Only go with MBUSA written policies.

Yes, for the same program at the same or similar cost, I'd prefer to have bought a MB policy.

Fidelity offered coverage for an additional 100,000 miles (above my current mileage) 6 years coverage and cost $1000 less than a MB policy with less coverage.

Nothing wrong with buying the MB policy. I just preferred to save the money, and take the better coverage.

One other point to consider is if there are plans to tune the car, a MB warranty is a risky purchase.

Go give the MB dealer people in the extended warranty thread a call. Seems expensive to me and some of them sell them at only $50-100 over cost.....

The six years started when I purchased the policy and had nothing to do with the in service date.

How much did you pay for that Fidelity coverage, if you don't mind me asking? Is that for your S4? You can also PM me if you like.

I called Fidelity 2 years ago, and I was told the coverage has to be purchased and start when the car is still under factory warranty. Is that right? That means 4 years from the in-service date for MB's. Does that mean if you get Fidelity close to factory warranty's expiration, you can drive the same MB for 10 years from in-service date while covered?

Fidelity will not sell direct. You must buy it from car dealers (thus the contact info I provided for Troy).
I think I paid about $3200. There are different levels of coverage and the coverage also is dependent based upon the car's mileage. In my case, I purchased the policy before 35,000 miles. I bought the top of the line, bumper to bumper coverage. I think the deductible is $200 per incident.

I never purchased an aftermarket warranty for any of my S4s. Had I known that Fidelity was the actual entity covering the extended warranty (not AoA), I definitely would have purchased a policy.

If you troll the Audizine forum for S4s, you'll find numerous recommendations to buy the warranty from Troy.

When I had a stuck injector on my C63 AMG, the bill to repair was $2500 from my Mercedes dealer. Fidelity would only pay $600, and I had to fight tooth and nail with the Fidelity reps. They are obviously trained to avoid paying anything. They wouldnt pay for AMG tech rates, nor do all the compression tests to ensure motor was safe. And even though the other injectors needed to be replaced, they would not cover that until they failed, no matter how bad they looked.

I had the highest level Fidelity plan. Essentially they wanted a Pep Boys type of repair job, not AMG level. Was frustrating that I had even bought the warranty, and car, from Mercedes.

I ended up getting MBUSA involved, and they were kind enough to help out because I had only been 2 months past my warranty, and the car had very low miles. Thats why I'm still a Mercedes customer with my E63 now. They stood behind me and helped me out.

It sounds like the safest thing to do would be to pay the premium and get a MB extended warranty. The extended warranty thread has recommendations on who to buy them from so you don't get hosed on extreme mark-ups.

I don't intend to be rude or offensive but has anyone "used" their ELW? I like to think, and so far I believe, the W212 to be pretty bulletproof under normal and spirited driving conditions. Just curious... Thx!

The other thing about the MB ELW is that it is refundable up until the point it starts, after which if you decide to cancel it, you can get a pro-rated refund.

This is the same thing my service advisor said to me. With a cost of $4600 to net a years worth of coverage i think i'm just gonna pass on it and get a tune instead. I hope it won't come back to bite me in the butt down the road. I've had the car for over a year and 12k miles with no issues other than a couple of minor things i would be happy to pay for. Now if i can only decide on which tune to get... obviously RennTech would be my first choice i'm trying to justify the outrageous price difference.
