So we can not be that far off from the car locking on to "the tree" and simply hold race start until it go time. And when that point comes just like modern DSG transmission the computer is going to be more precise than the human?

I never took my car to the track yet but my experience with race start there is a delay before launch so you would want to launch on yellow, waiting for green would be to late.
I think it would also take the fun out of it,
I can definitely see this in the near future. I don't think it will ruin drag racing it might be fun to mess around with,

Ha, wait until all you do is become a passenger that only "interferes" if the situation calls for it. Engage "Quarter mile mode" and just sit there. WEEEeeee.

Because science.

Next step is that the car wild scan to see what is in the lane next to you, scan its OBDII port and declare the winner or loser without moving...and if you are about to get "embarrassed" a check engine light engages....and the phone dials your tuner of choice.

Second that LOL ^^

I remember my DSM days of hand brake, start 2 step (Anti lag system), hop it builds enough boost, slip the clutch and hope 2nd gear engages.... AWD funess

Now for the last 7 years it's been DCT or MCT launch control or hold the brake and go, if it gets any more disengaged than that then it'll be boring.

+1, except my first car was a 3rd gen (non-DSM). I also think it already is boring with the MCT. I did 3 runs a few months after I got the car, and have no interest in going again.
