My wagon made it home and official Intro
Hi Guys,
I've been lurking and learning over the last few months, but I finally got the car so I thought I would introduce myself.
What I bought:
I got a Canadian 2014 E63 Wagon (non S) in Diamond Silver (aka - girly blue) with 25k miles. It was a killer deal because it was a friend's lease buyout that he didn't want so he passed the savings onto me. Then with the Canadian exchange rate...stole it pretty much.
To get it home, I actually shipped it directly to a muffler place near Vancouver (Muffler Man...highly recommended) and had them cut out the resonator and replace with straight pipes. So yes, I modded it before even driving it. Bold right?
First Thoughts:
1) I LOVE the exhaust in this thing. The cold start makes randoms jump and puts a smile on my face. It has no drone on the highway but it's loud and burbly when you step on the gas. So, pretty much exactly what you want. No idea what it sounded like stock, but I don't see why it didn't come out of the box like this
2) It's not really that fast...maybe I should explain myself. I think modern cars just feel too safe. Like, you floor it in this thing, GTR, whatever and yes...you do appear to go faster and your speedo increases. But compared to my 911 turbo that I sold (sniff sniff) that was old with a loud exhaust...no comparison. That thing just felt dangerous when the turbos kicked in. Would the E63 beat it? Probably. But man that car was entertaining. Second mod is going to be a tune for SURE. Not like Canadian Warranty applies anyway.
3) This is SUPER annoying in parking lots at low speed. That wet clutch just feels like someone who can't drive manual awkwardly cruising around. It seems difficult to modulate the gas and smoothly accelerate slowly AND not have random super loud barky exhausts blurbs. I dunno, I'll figure it out. Minor problem.
4) WHY IS THERE AN ANNOYING WHISTLE AT 70+ MPH. For a 100k car, this thing should be whisper quiet in a wind tunnel right? Is this a charming E63 problem or just my car needs some caulking. What gives? I think on the autobahn that whistle would be deafening
5) The steering wheel is really loud at low speeds. Goes back to my "awkward in the parking lot" point earlier. I guess I'll get used to it, but none of my cars have ever made this much noise with low speed maneuvers.
6) Not sure I love these massaging seats. Maybe it's an acquired taste like Vegemite which pretty much tastes like dog vomit. Eat it Aussies.
7) The handling on this thing is incredible. I would never guess I was driving something this heavy - it feels remarkbly chuckable. Not like S2000 chuckable, but REALLY great given what it is. Lightyears better than my 911. Love the brakes too.
Net net - car seems awesome but needs a few more tweaks for me to love it. Still, for the practicality, rarity, and fun factor? It's a slam dunk.

One thing to note when comparing it to the Porsche is that the Benz the Porsche is a lot lighter (probably about 1000lbs lighter). Lighter cars always feel faster (with power to weight ratio in mind). Also, the torque limiters in these cars don't let them get off the line viciously... for whatever reasons they're in place.

I know what he's talking about though... the newer cars have a lot more traction and stability control features that prevent the cars from accelerating violently fast.

I asked a tuner about it and he said that's why, and they wouldn't mess with it because then car is in risk of major issues.
Best thing I found for take off was either brake boost quickly to 2500rpm or ease into gas normally then floor it all the way.

congrats on the new wagon - agree - my old 55 was a beast - total bull in a china shop - a tune will make the wagon nasty, but refined
how crazy of a price is crazy? we all want to know.

The sad part is that I got made fun of by the cab driver! I see the car and I go "ah, cool it's outside right there". He goes "the blue one?". I'm like..yes...the..blue one (diamond silver my butt). Then I go "it's kind of girly but whatev". His response "Hey man, at least it's not pink". WHICH MEANS HE THOUGHT IT WAS THE SAME SPECTRUM!!! CURSE THAT GUY.
<<<<To be deleted when I need to resell the car on this forum and rip off one of you guys...jk (mostly)>>>>>
So the lease buyout was 43k USD. Insane right? The problem is that I then had to pay like 13% Canada sales tax on it because technically you don't "own" a lease. Then I had to pay about 2.5% of KBB value at the border, which was 2.5% of 63k. So I think net net after all the mess, it was 50k. Now I get to try and scam my local DMV so wish me luck!

Yes, it's AWD. I laughed at the Tiffany blue. Honestly, in person, it's a LOT better. The closer you get the better it looks? Kind of weird.

Nice car! Congratulations! Nice color, never seen that one before.
Guys, check out Silverstone II (metallic) on the BMW E90/92/93 and E60/61/62/63. I have it on my M5 Sedan and it looks a lot like this. Silver in low light, a very slight powder blue under direct sunlight.
I am local too. Live Seattle/work Bothell WA, and I'm in Vancouver BC every other weekend.

I have to admit, the color is growing on me and I only dislike it in bright sunlight when it looks girly blue. Other than that, it's pretty cool.

Well, Silverstone II was the official BMW launch color in late 2005 (North America) for the E60 M5, so it must be good!

Here is it next to the bmw Silverstone. Pretty close!
Seeing it in a real lightning situation would be better obviously
