Celicasaur's W212 E63
So after enjoying seeing the progress on dinmans car via his thread (great thread - check it out if you haven't - https://mbworld.org/forums/w212-amg/...-too-much.html ), I figured I should make one too. Afterall, this forum is in danger of just being a place for "yet another M157 tuned and here are my numbers" but no actual content to read/see about cars kinda place.
Anyway, so a brief introduction - it's a 2010 W212 E63 which I bought in March 2015 (coming up to 2 years now). I bought the car on around 65k and now it's on around 87k. I won't bore you with the spec - but it's got the usual nice extra's like Pan Roof etc
I think I had the car like...2 weeks until the modding started. My previous AMG was an E55K, so this car had a lot to live up to in the looks department because that's probably my favourite-looking Mercedes ever. In the pics you'll see what I've done...some of you may have seen it before, but for those of you that haven't....
There's no doubting the Revozport quality
I kinda miss my oem corner carbon spats....had to remove them after the first lip flew off on the motorway because they made the fit a bit...well, tight
The BOCA rear diffuser....well....looks great - fitment was pretty bad until I 'made' it fit with my big hammer approach. Fits well now, but the quality of the 'carbon' doesn't match anywhere near the price tag or Revozport quality. lol i'm pretty sure it's just plastic that's been dipped in carbon maybe...it's very flimsy
And the Renntech spoiler was surprisingly poor - I'm assuming the replica's were based off this gen 1 version. The guys at Renntech were great though and took it back n sent me a newer version with a much better fit and without the horrid ripples in the weave which could be seen in the light.
H&R springs
Lowering links for the rear
Slightly off topic... i've posted this before in the W204 forum that the fuel economy in my car, on the highway at least, isn't too terrible...
Getting back to the car, regarding problems, it's been relatively good to me thus far * knocks on wood * - I had some slightly annoying harsh up/down shifts in the lower gears and after having it inspected, it turned out that I had two tired solenoids in the valve body (or transmission...i dunno really, this is just what Eurocharged UK said) and so I had all 8 replaced for OEM MB parts. Now shifts smoothly around 95% of the time. Occasionally is has a hard downshift into 2nd even in comfort and gosh i hate the jarring downshift into 1st in Manual mode, but I've just learnt to accept that it's the nature of the car. In Sport mode it shifts just fine into 1st. Strange.
Other than that, I had some very minor ticking from the engine and some teeeeeeeny camshaft wear, so as preventative maintenance, I decided to have SLS lifters installed and then rather than use OEM cams, I opted for Kleemann cams (which I'm sure a good few of you have heard about on my car). My car already has revised revised headbolts thankfully, so I didn't bother having those replaced.
Kleemann cam lobe (yes with some annoying signs of wear already on this particular lobe)
OEM cam lobe:
You can see the clear difference in profile ^ Kleemann didn't provide specs because they don't want anybody to copy them i guess, but i've seen dyno sheet's of them working well for a supercharged C63 (50hp gain) and although I'm yet to see the true benefit of what they can do in terms of peak power (20-25hp claimed and big blob of torque all over), my midrange at least is very beefy now.
Power wise......well, it's no secret that my car has been a bit of a problem child. I'm not sure if it's because W212's in general show a lot less power to dyno's due to the transmission or something or wheel size, or if it's just my car. I find threads with W212 E63's putting down more like 380whp stock and then 420whp with a tune. Then I see threads of W212's with 420whp stock and 440whp with a tune. it's funny because I see loads of C63's in real life putting down 450whp from just tune alone (cats still in place!) and their baseline figures are in the 370whp range.
If I had a baseline dyno, a lot of questions of mine would have been answered. However my car has always struggled to make power even with a tune. This time last year after the cam install and V5 tune the car managed 413whp....pretty poor. I eventually went back to the OEM tune and then went for a retune in December to which the car put down 420whp. Kleemann and myself (even the AMG technical helpline - do you guys get that in the USA?) suspect either the intake manifold air flaps to be at fault, or the engine timing/camgears...I guess it's something that I'll have to slowly tick off one by one. TBH after the header install, the midrange of the car is pretty epic. The curve is taller and flatter and stronger than any other M156 I've seen a dyno sheet of from the same place that I go to get my work done from. 450wtq up to 5000rpm makes the real world throttle feeling quite beefy. Peak power is now at a fairly ordinary 460whp. Hoping to get that higher soon - updates to follow.
Oh going back to issues, I had a leaking valve cover gasket so replaced that at home on my driveway.
Problem-wise ^ that's pretty much been it so far....but 2017 is still young, so who knows.
Soon after the top end work to the motor, i bought a pair of nice long tubes from Australia, with help from a lovely forum member Mr747
DPE headers
Granted, the quality of the finish of the joins from flange to runners is a bit...umm...
Preventative maintenance and general servicing...when i bought the car, the dealer did a main service for me inc diff oil, plugs etc. Last year it had a nice n cheap B service, but in around 3 months from now I'm due to bend over for an A3 service. In between, I've pretty much just given it random bit of love via replacing the brake pads for oem and having the discs skimmed, replacing the breather/PCV pipe behind the intake manifold, replacing intake manifold gasket/bolts, replacing air feed pipes (they had tiny cracks...probably shouldn't have bothered, but hey ho), new tyres last year (AD08R all over), retro-fitting illuminated doorsills and tidying up the exhaust tips. The car rarely ever asks for an oil top up...I'd say it tends to ask for oil (1.5 - 2 quarts) every....8-9 months or so. My driving style is....dunno, fairly sensible for the most part, but when it's late at night and the roads are clear, I'm quite partial to a bit of WOT action.
Calipers cleaned and then re-lacquered (yes my parking skills are appaling)
I also purchased the intake box spacers and air filter from Shardul a year ago - I needed new filters anyway and they were at an introductory rate, so I took a chance on them. Intake/dirt pattern after around....6 months I think:
Replacement air feeds (the old ones had cracks along the wiggly/bendy bits):
Replacement breather/PCV:
Intake manifold ports weren't particularly nasty or had burnt on crap like some members have reported, so I just gave the light oil gunk a once over with brake cleaner and was done with it
OEM front and rear pad change:

Gotta love those illuminated door sills:
After I'd had my rear tailgate debadged/filled/painted, I wanted to machine polish the whole car (last summer) to get rid of swirls and make it look pretty damn good....here's a quick before/after of the tailgate as I was doing it...sadly I didn't take too many more pics of the entire job because my phone battery died.
Some random pics after the detail but these aren't really pics which show it off, so these serve as nothing but flaunting more pics of the car tbh:
After the body of the car was looking pretty, the exhaust tips were letting the side down....I can't justify spending the outlay on a new set of OEM tips, nor can I find a reasonable shop that will re-chrome the original ones for me, so I had to polish them up using conventional methods. It's a bit ghetto in the sense that I only focussed on the front parts that will be seen once installed on the car:
A little side project that I'm working on....more to be revealed if I can pull it off
And more recently, I set about making my mid-exhaust section to fit along with my headers...I used a pipe expander to help the pieces to slot in for a stronger join and then mig welded it in my garden....annoyingly the gas ran out and I had to make do with just electricity because fitted was the next day. But tbh I'm going to go with straight pipes soon anyway and then I'll re-do the mid-section.
Header fitting in no particular order (yes these are pretty poor pics....probably shouldn't post them but what the hell):
The choke point on these headers is quite...well....chokey. I don't think the MBH or Kleemann headers have a choke point like...I wonder what the real world difference is between having the two. I know what chokes do....it's just interesting to see different headers with different methods of construction.
I'll keep the thread with on-going updates of the car as and when they happen.
Next things on the menu soon are....
Wheel refurb
More investigative work on the power issue
Re-dyno after straight pipes (I really want to know what the big deal with x-pipes is all about tbfh)
Bigger throttle body install
Detailing for the summer and random whoring

Thanks guys
I don't have any sound clips or vids of the motor yet since the headers install, but I'll get something up soon, probably after the straight pipes. And yes I'll mostly likely take a punt on the underdrive crank pulley which Shardul has for sale (they've got a rubber core to act as a harmonic balancer), but only after/if I can solve my core power issues.
Lastly, yes Eurocharged, I will most likely do the flex fuel ethanol thing in the future, but I really want to see more independent dynos.

Very nice! I was not aware you had done so much to this car. One of the best looking ones I've seen, with the carbon bits and all, lowering, etc. Love those wheels too. I have alot of questions about your car. Lol

I searched through the whole thread and didn't see the brand of the new grill you got. Do you have a link of where you got it from?

Thanks man
Sadly I don't have the part numbers...all I have is an invoice from EC London that says "8 x valvebody solenids replaced" - try your local dealer buddy.
I should also update this thread soon before I sell the car....watch this space (but nothing new for those who are regulars on the W204 forum)
