E63 vs GTR

Hey guys, having a huge debate on which car to buy. I'm a previous owner of a 900whp evo x and bolt ons c63. Obviously I love speed, however I'm pretty much done with having a car that's almost like a racecar. The evo was raw on the streets and barely street driveable at that kinda power. It was trapping around 140mph+. The dilemma that I'm having is I would love to have a car that at least can trap 135mph+ with not ridiculous mods and have full interior. What do you guys recommend? Can a E63 trap around that mph with bolt ons+e85 etc? What problems should I worry if I'm making that power on a E63? I don't have kids, however I love luxury. The problems with GTR's is everyone have them but you can make them extremely fast.

Thanks

Not many 63s trapping 135 unless your talking turbo upgrade. 130 should be attainable with bolt ons and e85.

You don't want either of those. What you want is an RS7. E63 is a great car, but it terms of aftermarket and peaks the RS7 is a much more receptive car to mods and getting to where you want to be.

If you get a GTR you'll just end up in another car that was like your Evo, maybe faster, but kiss that luxury good-bye.

Even the m5 would be a better option at the moment if you were concerned about performance and modding and getting up to that 135 mark.

Only other recommendation would be waiting on the w213 e63 or the incoming awd m5 if you can't get over the RS7 styling like me. I think it is ugly, other people love it. I can't make that decision for you.

As for what you should worry about on the e63 if you go that route, basically just the tranny. That will go before you have problems with other things.

A buddy of mine just picked up a GTR a few months ago. I was always a huge fan boy and planned to pick one up, but after driving it and riding around in it for a few days I absolutely hate the thing. The amount of cheap plastic and crappy interior bits was a huge turn off for me. I ended up going with a new M3 just for the new tech and to try something different after many mercs. I've tuned it with downpipes, exhaust, and charge pipes thus far and its plenty quick, not quite sure what it will trap though. I would check out the RS7, it sounds like its right up your alley.

On an m5 I'd also be worried about the tranny going when upgrading it to trap 135+. Stock DCT cannot handle the torque of MCT, so do it reliably will likely need upgraded clutch packs etc.

When you say "everyone", you must be talking about a certain crowd. I'm pretty sure that there are more E63's made than GTRs. Definitely in Los Angeles and San Francisco (city), E63s far outnumber GTRs.

Regardless, you're going to get relatively biased answers here. If you're single and don't care about practicality, I'd recommend a used 911 turbo.

I'd get a 997 turbo for sure. The GTR is alright but when not speeding it feels wayyyy too much like an altima with a clunky tranny.

The depreciation is way Better on a 997 also.

I think for the power levels you want, the e63 is the wrong platform.

Things quickly get way out of the price range of the GT-R and E63 when recommending P cars. RS7 or M6 Gran Coupe would be more appropriate choices to suit his needs imo.

Is AWD something you need? If so bmw should be out of this. The M would also need to upgrade transmission to get what you want from it.

you could wait for the new m5 with AWD probably better for you.

They could be. 2008 911 turbos go for like 70 to 80k depending on mods and condition. Gtrs are less.

Since you are going to mod hard anyway, why buy new and worry about warranty and depreciation.

Gtrs are Prob faster and a better platform for pure speed but you mentioned interior....

Same here in Rochester NY. We have a pretty well linked community, at least when it comes to spotting cars, and there are 4-5 known E63S' floating around but a couple dozen GTR's.

I actually think it's pretty funny that on a Mercedes forum, everyone is like "get a porsche" lol.

I'm actually surprised that most of you guys think that the GTR is a more rare car. What are the production numbers on E63s? GTR's sell at about 1200-1600 a year. Maybe people are seeing more because E63 guys commute to work in those and bring the GTR to Cars and Coffee?

I think the only disappointing part of the Mercedes community is that the people who are into modding are a pretty small percentage compared to BMW or Porsche. This forum is the only bastion of hope! haha

I have one kid and immediately went "wagon time!" Most of my coworkers and friends are just confused.

If I only had a wife (or temporary GF) then I'd be rocking some kind of more dedicated sports car for SURE...and probably not a AMG GT

Thanks for the recommendations guys, I will be test driving both cars in the next month. Looks like bolt ons e63 can only trap around 130 mph, however I'm willing to give some speed for luxury. In VA/MD area, GTR are really common. That's what everyone upgrades too coming from high HP evo's.

Well 130mph is definitely no slouch either, definitely worth checking out if you want that luxury and extra space.

I am in MD and had a FBO '09 GT-R with E85 tune (the kid who bought it is up in Columbia MD). The transmission was a ticking time bomb with some defective solenoids on the earlier models, so be careful what year you are looking at and what seems like a bargain now, can easily become a money pit. Make sure you know the car's service and maintenance history.

If I didn't need 4 doors and AWD, I would probably be in an M6 tuned with FBO (I had an F10 M5 tuned with FBO).
