Achieving max boost 14.5psi (stock)?
Anyone figure out what gear(s) / rpm range to achieve at or near the 14.5psi max boost on the Amg S?
I use dash command app for very basic data logging and only a couple times have I seen 13+ psi boost during WOT high way on ramp runs. With race start and logging it's showing about 12 ps. I don't put too much faith in 10 buck iPhone apps so maybe these readings are off. but curious for any feedback on what your experiences are with achieving max boost levels.
and I do love this car (almost as much as my. 13 year old c32 ha...)
thx j

5th gear seems to work for max boost. If you have an S then it should be about 18.8psi. I have the same issue with boost level consistency. I see about 15psi all the time. I deleted my cats so I know a little will be lost. Have you tried mixing a bit of race gas? Log just regular MAP readings since Boost in dash command is a "Calculated" PID. If you log in KPA every 6 kpa over 100kpa is 1 psi boostI believe. So example 124kpa would be 4 psi boost. I was also reading somewhere that some 14+ year model S cars didnt get the right factory tune and also had the wrong map sensor. hopefully someone can shine some light

i didnt know the S max boost could get to 18+ psi...is that stock? the info i read here from a mbusa site mentions 14.5psi. if is 18psi then i am way below that with only seeing about 12-13 ish. never more than 13.5.
"On the new S-Model the AMG 5.5-liter V8 Biturbo engine produces a peak
power output of 577 hp and delivers a peak torque of 590 lb-ft – an increase by 27 hp over the previously available AMG Performance package option. The
increase in performance and power is made possible by modifications to the
engine management system, an increase in the peak injection pressure and a
hike in maximum boost pressure from 13.0 to 14.5 psi. "

You are correct sorry for the wrong information I was a bit confused lol
yes I use dash command sometimes. I use blue driver for the live logging aspect though. It's very consistAnt and you can record hours of driving then go back and look at the graphs instantly or while you're logging.

with dashcommand what horse power readings do you get on your e63s 4matic? i'm stock and it shows 800-840 horsepower range all the time which clearly is way off and i think its because dashcommand doenst do well with AWD cars....

ok cool, was worried i'm losing about 5psi boost if i was supposed to be seeing 18!

the other settings like MAF, Lambda, MAP are zero... I posted 2 questions on this to PalmerPerformance who makes dashcommand and have never gotten a response so they are zero help.

TTmerc - with those settings what HP numbers were you getting? I had zero value in for volumetric so will try .65

"Dashcommand hp calculations are set up for an average naturally aspirated engine, since you're moving to a boosted engine you'll need to adjust the BSFC in the vehicle settings. Try 0.50 at first, and move it up from there if the hp numbers are still too high. The default for this setting is 0.45, making the setting higher will lower the calculated hp. Generally most NA cars are around 0.45, turbo cars are close to 0.50, and supercharges engines are closer to 0.55."

TTMerc - thx, so you use dashcommand also? will try the option of logging MAP reading and what the KPA shows.

ive always heard the AMG-S model was 18.8 psi (for a small amount of time).... and then tapers off back to 14.5 psi at max rpm ... the only difference between s-model and renntech tune is that tune hold the 18.8 to redline as opposed to tapering off to 14.5 like the stock s-model does

the recorded max boost I've hit after some 0-100+ highway pulls is like 13.5psi. Really makes me want a tune if the max boost still has room and can hit 18+ with all the extra power. Will play with this app and see if I can dial in more accurate boost figure. Or may look for a new app....

interesting appreciate the info, didn't know boost could get to 18.8psi. My dashcommand app maybe doesn't work or settings not right.

Couple questions that may help get more PPOOWWAA..
How many miles on your car?
How new are the plugs and what are they gapped at?
What gas are you using brand wise?
What IATs are you at when doing pulls?
Have you done the Trans Adapt reset?
What does the timing look like when doing a pull? Goes up/Goes down/Stays flat/How many degrees is it usually?
Traction all the way off?

I've hit up to 20 Psi with stock tune and some race gas on spikes on the shifts. I've played around with all kinds of homemade setups for manual boost controlling and nothing is really consistent.

How many miles on your car? 17000 (2015 year)
How new are the plugs and what are they gapped at? (assuming stock, bought car with 13k miles as 2nd owner CPO from MB dealer)
What gas are you using brand wise? (BP / 93 octane available in Chicago)
What IATs are you at when doing pulls? (seem ok - 40F above ambient?)
Have you done the Trans Adapt reset? (is this where you put key to pos 2, press pedal etc? yes done that a few times)
What does the timing look like when doing a pull? Goes up/Goes down/Stays flat/How many degrees is it usually? (need to check this)
Traction all the way off? (yes)
again maybe this dashcommad app sucks and not getting the right readings but not see boost above 13.5psi so far. the 0-60 logger on dashcommand has shown 3.7 best time and thats with the 13.5 boost reading.

Log your Fuel trims both LT and ST focusing primaraly on the LT. Even just driving around look at what the LTs do at a stop light casual driving and with a load. They have helped also trouble shoot a bunch of things. Let me know what these look like for both banks
The IATs seem a bit high if that's hwy driving but we can save that till the end if nothing else changes.
Edit: Also are you running any type of aftermarket filters? If not, hit up Shardul and get the intake kit which includes filters. Best bang for the buck IMO.

You are super close to what it should be. My opinion would be pull the stock plugs replace with stock plugs but gapped down. I've gapped a couple different ways and I am still untuned. The best its felt at WOT to me was gapped about .022-.024 it seemed to pull harder at higher rpms maybe due to less blowout which I would think allow for the full commanded boost.

Awesome man! That alone should help! If it were me I'd do the plugs and gap them down as well just so you know where your at with those. Stock gap is a lot larger. Good luck awaiting your results!

if true, good luck with 23.5 psi on stock turbo as that is way outside of our turbos compressor efficiency map.... how much are new replacement turbos for our cars?
