Eurocharged Chicago charged me 150 for install of mine that's how easy it is. I think 1.5hr on lift

OK question
If I put cat less downpipes on without a tune, will the car have at least the same stock power and drivability or will it cripple a bit in some limp mode? ie: the only "bad" thing being the check engine light and car will function and haul *** just the same? I have a cat less tune to apply after but want some baselines before/after and don't want to buy a tune just to get the light out for a couple days while I do some testing.

I have the catless DP and it transformed the car day and night. It's not only more responsive but sounds awesome too. CEL, you would need to fix it though

If the CEL is due to no cats, then there will be no effect on performance.

I started the downpipes! I thought a couple hours, easy.

Then after a socket fell on my face and the 8th time worm wiggling out from under the car staring at the sensor harness trying to get my hand up there after watching @kenneyd ’s video I said forget this and just tightened the few bolts I cracked and I’m done. Have to find a shop this week. I’m too old it’s too tight and annoying lying under a car.

LoL

Probably for the best, since the pipes were laid out incorrectly

But yeah, this kind of work is no fun without a lift. I know all too well.

I contemplated chucking a Molotov cocktail on my window after messing with those O2 sensors for what feels likes hours. Why they make them so dang hard?? I first tried to just unscrew them from the pipe, but my O2 socket wouldn't work and a wrench wouldn't turn it either. insane

I’m actually proud of myself quitting when I did! Normally I’d have the stock exhaust hanging off the O2 sensors by now thinking about cutting the wires and ordering a new harness…

The garage is only 20x20 and every time I think about a two post lift I think harder how it will suck day to day parking.

Shops in the city are booking out 2-3 weeks. Argh.

Best decision ever. Same reason I don't do my own oil.

And this is the reason I abandoned the Catless DP and trying to fiddle with O2 spacers. Another member noted that he had to pay a shop to take off one of the pipes (passenger side, I think) cuz there is no room at all to get to the O2s. That thread left off at him failing to correct CEL in spite of multiple attempts with different type spacers.

Thank you for that! Now I don’t feel so bad giving up realizing I was getting into trouble. If I had a lift I could at least pace back and forth muttering. Lying under the car twisting my neck around to see while scraping my hand up there it takes a minute to wiggle out and regroup. That minute was torture

I have it booked for Tuesday down the street and will warn them when I drop it off.

Ultimately, the Weistech DP's are the ideal solution but aren't worth the install cost unless you are replacing the turbos.
@BerndV Latest owner of your legendary car I'm searching for replacement AMS downpipes. Wife doesn't like the cat-less smell

Any recommendations for catted downpipes to help reduce the smell a bit? And any other options to get cats back on? Thank you.

I've recently done blackboost catless downpipes. And it sounds amazing. You can hear the turbos spool loud

Anyone do a lot of mileage with no cats? I think it's no issue if it's not your daily driver, but I do wonder if having the tune artificially fooling the ECU about the O2 sensors will mess with the car long-term.

The cats aren't protecting the car engine they are protecting the people and the environment, I've had the catless downpipes fitted over a year and the best part of 10,000 miles now and there are no issues except the smell when standing behind the car and the noise being so addictive that it results in my foot going to the floor a lot!

Obviously, catless downpipes would provide the most sound (and performance) but for those with aftermarket catted downpipes, is there much difference from stock downpipes?

I would doubt it makes much difference at all. Personally I would not do aftermarket catted even high flow doesn't seem worth any gains or noises. I'd be inclined to just leave the stock ones on and save my money.

Check out the snapshot of the spreadsheet here of the fastest E63's and many still have stock cats installed:

The shop called my "VERY LOUD" car is ready. Oh boy I hope I'm not too old for a "VERY LOUD" car.

It took them two hours, they had trouble with a bolt. Whew glad I aborted trying myself.

Will report back as soon as I go and hear it. A little nervous to tell you the truth LOL!

1) It's smelly. Inside it's OK as long as you keep moving. I need to pull forwards into the garage instead of backing in or it's pretty bad and goes in the house. Did I say it's smelly? It's smelly.
3) It's loud. From inside it sounds awesome! Not raspy at all part throttle, just more of the deep throatiness, and yes I can hear the turbos now. Sweet! I don’t like the WOT. Only part throttle is satisfying. WOT sounds like a trumpet blaring vs. hitting a good note. The AMG note is gone.
4) It's loud Outside. I fear it maybe too loud. I do frequently WOT past civilians who maybe used to say "huh what was that?" but now I'm scared of "I'm calling the police on that punk - what a douche". Outside it may sound like a redneck pickup truck. The only saving grace is when my car makes noise, I'm gone.
5) All the wannabe's that want to prove something are suddenly EVERYWHERE. The sound is like a light to moths. The attention I received before was mostly cool car guys and thumbs up. Now it's EVERYONE riding my ***, popping, doing their battle cries and buzzing away.
6) no CEL yet! I know it's coming.

So far I'm keeping it like this for track day. We will see what the future holds.
