Oil consumption: What's OK?

How much oil consumption is OK for a 16 e63 with 20k miles?

For you owners out there, how many miles do you get before needing to add a quart? Does your M157 e63 need oil between changes?

Does your ASSYST give you a countdown in days or miles?

I was going through a quart every 2,500 miles using Mobil 1. I am now using Liqui Moly that is 229.5 certified and I haven't had to add any in 6K+ mileage of use.

I think the manual says as much as 1 quart every 5,000 miles

i don't ever had to add more than 1/2 quart between 10,000 oil change intervals, I have 20,000 miles on the odo, bought it with 81 miles on it

I thought I read up to 1qt every 1000 miles was acceptable...but don't quote me. I typically have to add 1qt at 2500 miles with mobile 1 but I haven't tried any other brands.

manual doesn't say it.
manual warns you that allowance to consume oil is 1 L per 800KM.
consumption mainly depends on oil and driving style.i used original Amg oil and Mercedes 229.5 both consumed 1L per 900-1000km. Changed to Petronas and i only add 1L each 2500KM.

Thx guys for the info. I'm wondering what oil folks are using, that has reduced consumption - sounds like Liqui Moly does it. Mine is not bad, just wonder what else people have had good experience with...

It was highly recommended by a MB master tech who started his own independent shop. I was reluctant at first to go away from Mobil 1, but it really has been great with no oil consumption and the engine even seems to run noticeably smoother.

What weight are you running? I'd think just getting above a 0 weight would decrease my oil consumption. The quart I always keep in the trunk pours out like water in our Arizona heat so I can't imagine how thin it is at operating temps.

I believe it is the 5w40. I have 2 quarts in my trunk. I will confirm tomorrow morning.
