2011 E63 Nightmare! M156 6.2L AMG Engine Destroyed

So like the Tittle says, got a bad way to start my New Years, bought a e63 from auction and didn't test it my fault. Went to pick it up, installed new battery and went to fire it up and it started right up but was shaking and sounded like something came apart in the engine, it was backfiring and would shut off unless I gave gas and held it at 1500rpm and it would run. I looked at bunch of videos online and saw people saying valve spring breaks causing valve to stay open I said ok shouldn't be too much money to fix, wrong, turns out valve spring is fine but won't believe what I found...... THE EXHAUST CAMSHAFT ATE THRU THE POCKET VALVE LIFTER!!!! Put a hole in it, and dropped the valve, now looking online this looks terrible people saying you have to replace engine if this happens, the shop I dropped my car at hasn't pulled the head off yet and they gave me a list of parts I needed,
I bought all the parts going in 2 days to drop them off but im afraid to hear the news when they pull the head off and see damage, has this happened to anyone else before? I've seen Tasos Moschatos on youtube show same issue on a C63 but never seen it before. Any help or comments id appreciate it!

This is unfortunate mate. I have seen a couple M156s with the exact incident. Camshaft eats thru the tappet and there goes your engine. What is the mileage? Do you know the history?
Looking at the other tappets, I'd say the engine wasn't cared for, perhaps low quality oil, long change intervals, engine was run low on oil for some time, or it is just some bad luck. The thing I find strange is this issue usually occurs to the intake side. As the exhaust side is lubricated better. Could you please give me the VIN # or the engine serial.

Good luck.

Most of them
hate to hear that, best of luck to you. i change my oil religiously every 5k miles, check the level every week or so, and only use Mobil1 0w-40 Synthetic and the OEM MB filter, in hopes of preventing this kind of damage. 147,000 miles on mine.

i need to pull my valve covers off and check this out

If you going to keep the car, port and polish the heads valve job and SLS CAMs. Build it better and have it waiting for a future SC upgrade.
I had W211 6.2 and never had a tic from that motor.. I was like a Camry.

dont know the history on the car, and it’s strange because it’s on exhaust valve and usually exhaust is more oiled than Intake! And it’s only at 85k miles low miles but someone didn’t take care of it I guess

I love the car I had a 2011 e550 before this and thought I might as well just go with the best get the 63 but **** wasn’t a good idea for me, how much is the sls cams and valve job run? Want to get it running and planning to install Weistec supercharger on it in the future

one of my buddy has a 2008 e63 with 160k miles and healthy but has a engine tick told him to check his lifters and his lifters are pretty scratched up, if you have a ticking I’d recommend getting the lifters done before it eats thru it and causing major engine failure like mine!

Do you know the old camshaft part # ? They probably knew something was wrong, that is why some parts are revised three or four times. What is strange is the number of part revisions, differs from left to right. The left E cam vs right cam, 4 vs 3 times.
Will you be replacing all valve tappets as well?

e63 amg w212 6.3
the m156 engines have been known for lifter and cam issues, I wouldnt upgrade to SLS cams, as people have noted loss of power, like the c63 owner DADS c63 (maroon color) you can look him up on google.
I would keep stock cams (buy new), and upgrade to SLS black series lifters, and while you are at it, change the headbolts and your car is future proof.
I'm sorry to hear about this happening to your e63, i know how you must feel ive had a lot of issues with my m156 e63 too.
I'm on the path of upgrading lifters for the e63 as well before one fails.
