M157 Oil Change With Extractor
Hello,
Was all set to change the oil on my car, and then noticed in the MB oil change instructions that it specifically states to use the extraction method for all variants of W212... except for the M157 ("The engine oil must always be drained") I've tried to research why, but haven't found anything. Is it possible the dipstick is in a part of the pan that's not actually at the lowest point? Since the dipstick is in the rear of the engine, and the pan drain is in the front, I fear this may be the case. I don't have access underneath the car, so I can't really get a good look.
Any guidance would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Joe

Thanks, but based on your signature I assume you're not referring to an M157. Really trying to understand why MB specifically excludes this engine.

I just changed my oil with a Mityvac 7201 on my M157. Make sure the engine is warmed up before you drain, you should get around 9 quarts through the dipstick tube.

I have considered this as well. I'd like to run an engine flush from Liquimoly and couldn't live with myself leaving the flushing agent in my system in the oil cooler as well. I think when I use the flush I'll remove it from the oil cooler as well. normally do oil changes in my driveway but think a lift would be necessary to hit the oil cooler as well.

I will never understand the need for an engine flush except to potentially damage your engine. The cars that statistically speaking have engines running 200plus thousand miles typically do not use engine flushes with any form of regularity.
Simply replace the oil and filter on a more frequent basis than the 10-12k miles. Easy

If you do the Oil from the Intercooler I wonder does the Capacity refill jump to 10-11 quarts to refill? I guess you could put in 9 quarts and then warm it up and then let it cool and finish adding to get it right on the dipstick?
