new pads with old rotors question
Hi... wife has been driving my car and recently told me the brakes were grinding. come to find out, the front driver side (side without the sensor) wore out before the passenger side. the grinding was bothering me so i changed out the pads the other day while waiting for the new rotors to arrive. pads are akebono.
question is...will i have any issues or ruin the new rotors if the driver side pad has some uneven wear already due to current rotor having grooves? or should i be old after the akebono pads even out with the new rotors that will be installed in a few days.
hope that makes sense. thanks in advance.

Well, any time you bed in new brakes, pads and rotors will adjust to each other. No worries, just make sure to to do the brake in procedure..

My car had the check brake wear warning pop up yesterday. My car only has 18K miles, I can get away with just replacing the pads, correct? Seems premature for the pads to be worn at this amount of miles.

At 18k I'd expect that you should be ok with just replacing pads. For full peace of mind you can measure the rotors when you do the pad replacement.
I wore out my fronts in about 15k miles...
