Dyno tuned my 2014 E63S by AMS today

This is entirely preliminary and I will post a bunch more for you all. I bought a second ecu for $360.00 on eBay that was a donor from a totaled 2015 gL550 that had 12,000 miles on it ... my original ecu was just read by AMS and left untouched otherwise

the ecu's are easily swappable and they showed me that you do not need to remove any negative terminals from the battery when interchanging. cool

i left the car at 10am with Chris Marshall and his great team and picked it up at 4pm; I left the oem plugs in and will go back to get plugs replaced with new gap of 0.022; I have 28,000 original miles on the car I've put on since I had it new.

first of all thanks to all the members that helped me here on this board but VROD in particular who really helped me seal the deal and gave me great feedback.

chris Marshall was awesome in helping me find a new ecu and walk through the tune process. their facility is really cool and they seem to do some awesome work there.

Ok, here's what you want:

Sorry chiro buddy I don't have baseline vbox numbers but I will have post tune vbox for you soon.

The stock to tune transformation is amazing; acceleration in all modes is smooth and no harsh shifting and daily driving is still perfect and smooth. S+ acceleration at WOT is straight up violent and I leave four patches of rubber.

throttle response is like the GREEN mode on sprint booster now and like vrod said I do not need that anymore unless I put in my stock ecu at anytime

will post more soon, thanks for checking it out

I live in the nortthwest suburbs and have been considering an AMS tune for a while now. That torque curve looks awesome! Would love to check out your car sometime. It would be nice know what you're getting before making the investment.

Nice, finally joining the world of modding Peter. Enjoy the boost and get those colder spark plug change before you get the limp mode as some have encountered. BTW, any plans on getting downpipes?

Thanks! Will definitely do on the plugs. no downpipes (as much as I would love them and a tune to optimize the engine after pipes) because I wanna stay "stock" when i swap my original ecu back in for any warranty work.

Anyone know where I can get those risers/feet for my second ECU?

Peter next question - what tires you buying next after you burn through your current ones with this new AMS power?

For those spacers, i think VROD used some on his ECU after installing the UPD intake kit here: https://mbworld.org/forums/w212-amg/...my-2015-a.html

thanks for the links!

I have all seasons ... Conti dws ... they are basically new and I may need to consider summers again but I had that hassle ... this car gets garaged in winter and not driven for four months but I like to drive in the fall and hate that wheel hop when it's too cold and you have summer tires

Congrats on the tune! Nice to hear your impressions now that you are finally tuned!
Any idea of what is peak PSI on this tune? Im guessing 93 octane? 50whp is nice, i see there is very little to gain past 5K RPM on these cars and turbos, whole lot of tq.

thank you! That's a great question on how much psi at peak boost... I'll email ams; 93 or 94 octane in my area yes. I think the current thinking is that the power fall off after 5k has at least something to do with protecting the mct/trans

im days into this and the driveability is as nice as what I would expect from stock/oem feel.... and the acceleration is .... violent

also the lag in my throttle has nicely improved ... I'm not sure that it's any better than when I was using sprintbooster but it's nice that I can take off the booster now and have one less warranty threat

also having two ecu's has taken away so much of that "tune warranty anxiety" coined by doctors as TWA lol!!!

Sweet. How do you like the power, night and day difference or noticeable difference Peter.

I accidentally order an extra set of the McMaster Carr ECU risers/feet if you still need it. Brand new as you can see from the thread it was never use/install because I have the other set already on my S63. Paid $38.55 with tax and shipping, it’s yours for $30 including shipping:

Hi

its night and day and I hesitate to use that term "night and day" unless i really mean it ...

i have to be a much more active driver for safety etc
its that much more power than I'm used to

I actually need the oem rubber feet not the risers ... the risers are for the Bmc filters?

What are the colder spark plugs? Getting ready to do the same thing.

Tonight was 54 F and the car was just pulling hard and I can tell this tune is best suited to summer tires... all seasons aren't gunna cut it ... I'm going to be looking for oem gunmetal 10 spokes and I'll put on summer tires on those new rims.

this AMS tune is a beast ... shifting continues to be smooth and throttle is nicely responsive still. s+ is just ... brutally awesome.

If anyone is on the fence about a tune... get the second ecu, tune that and have peace of mind. Life is too short not to tune this beast.

I'm guessing the answer is probably yes, but does the car sound the same as it did before the tune? I would love to check out your car sometime as I'm also in the Chicago area. I visited AMS in the spring, but decided not to bite the bullet yet as I had just purchased the car and still have 4 years of warranty left. The second ECU is sounding compelling though. Glad you are enjoying the transformation.

Risers are for the UPD cold air intake kit to get the ECU flush with the engine cover. BTW the shorter risers shown above are not the ones I used. I have the hex risers in both front and rear. The short ones shown above are not hex, they are round standoffs. Use the part numbers Jvakos mentioned above from my thread. That is if you even need them. Sounds like you are not after this. I did tell you that you would love this tune!! I have a couple of wrinkles in mine that AMS is straightening out. But when it's working? Holy Cow! Congrats my brother on coming to the fun side!

Sorry bud. I do not know where to get them. My 2nd ECU came with them. Maybe thats why your 2nd ECU was about $200 less than mine was. Lol I feel ya though. It will be a bit of a PITA to swapping those everytime you swap ECU’s.

Maybe you can find a defective, dirt cheap, ECU on Ebay that has them and then just toss the ECU?

Fun stuff, I did the exact same thing with AMS about two years ago, ECU tune and then also added a bigger intercooler. Fun car!

awesome! What did you do by way of spark plugs?

Did you stick with oem?

did you change the gap and stick with oem plugs?

how many miles on your tune?

ringking - how noticeable is the gains to reducing your cooling / IAT’s is the larger inter cooler with your AMS tune?

After 2 years any issues with trans or engine?

Why did you go with AMS instead of Eurocharged?
