30k service musings ...
i mentioned the tensioner rattle and that is being fixed under ELW warranty ... how much would that repair cost out of pocket? My ELW was $2600 for 7/75k btw when I got the e63S new in 2014
also my battery is 4 years old they're doing that for $414
my right rim was bent and repaired under my wheel tire warranty which has already paid for itself
$129 for road force balancing
brakes still with 4mm... oem brakes never replaced, rotors good, will do giro pads next year at Indy
detail $200
alignment $200
motor mounts good to go, no issues yet. Rest of car is solid. They have me for new plugs under my prepaid for next year service so I'll wait till then as they want $800 to do it now or it'll be covered under prepaid next year....
Depending upon your engine # they are either gonna Change your chain tensioners on the left and right, and add checks valve.. I believe these are pre 2014 engines.
On most 2014 + engines, they will only replace the chain tensioners.
Normal operation of the tensioners is to produce some rattling until the oil pressure comes up, if the new tenisoners don't do it at first, they will.. No damage or harm comes from this. I wouldnt call this a repair for more newer M157’s. For older m157 engines a stop to extended rattling repair for sure.
Each timing chain tensioner is around $120 Online , 2 are needed, and labor at the dealer would be few hundred. The job total should not be anywhere near over $1,000 total. I would eastimate around $600-800 would be fair.

Realistically my dealer prob would charge $1200 for a job like this because they are in the highway robbery biz
they wanted $800 just for plugs parts and labor
thank god for warranties

Yea, benz considers that small window of rattle normal while the oil pressure is being built up since that is what works the tensioners, so makes sense. They also claim that no negative effects come from this rattle.
Interested to hear what to change (im thinking tensioners alone, if anything) on your engine and what your intial/long term review on it is.
