Another coolant leak
#29
For the coolant feed line on the back of the left cylinder head, anyone know when Mercedes upgraded the part without the electrical connector? I’m looking at replacing mine and from what I can tell, it looks like the newer part. I have a 2014, so not sure if it was changed at some point by a previous owner or came that way.
Any tips on how to get to it? Can it be accessed by removing the vacuum pump?

Well, believe it or not, the ten bolts (5 on each side) are all you need to get the ic/intake manifold off. Just a little persuasion with the rubber mallet and the whole thing will come loose. It’ll take a little more persuasion to get them out but it doable and I did it. There are also two air hoses in the back lower intake manifold needed to disconnect, squeeze the sides and pull off. And here’s the culprit
here’s how it supposed to be
and here’s how I found it, wonder where all the coolant went
here’s a little bonus I found when I remove the intake manifold
That’s the product of the mighty direct injection. I run seafoam thru the intake once a year, I guess time to step it up to once every three months.

heater shut off valve w221
My heater shut off valve connected to the back of my engine on a 2013 S550 part# A2782000831 just sprung a leak and was losing coolant from behind the engine. This part was replaced by the dealer with a different part# 2782002152. Upon looking up the new part it appears a little different but its what they replaced it with. My old part looks like this below so it appears the new part doesn't have that square bottom on it anymore. Its very hard to get to it but dealer notes say they removed some vacuum lines and the brake vacuum pump. My guess is they removed those items to pull out that bulkhead that goes across the back of the engine between the engine and the firewall as it does have some lines going through holes in it that need to be removed to get it out of the way. Once that wall is out, it opens up the area a lot more however you still likely have to use a mirror and feel your way around to get the old off and put the new one on. They did it in less than 2 hours for $500.
Heater shut off valve on a 2013 Mercedes S550, it connects to the back of the engine head on drivers side and feeds a coolant hose to the heater control valve. Mercedes redesigned a replacement part to look different. Be aware.
