Stock vs Aftermarket Tune - 1/4 mile performance - Eurocharged Stage 1 Tune
I've made this thread for those of you who want a little increase in performance while retaining the stock hardware on the car.
In my case, this is a 2014 E63S. The only thing I've modded on the vehicle is removal of the rear mufflers.
The down pipes, Cats, air filters and spark plugs are all OEM from the factory.
I baselined the car on a dynoJet all wheel dyno running 93 octane using the stock ECU and tune and then headed to the track to log some baseline quarter mile times as well...
AMG Social Club at Royal Purple Raceway, Baytown TX
In stock trim, the car ran consistently approximately 11.9 at 119 mph, as evidenced by the time slips below... I was Car 258 on that night running a blend of 93 and 104 octane gas.
There was no one at the track that night and we where able to run back to back.
After establishing the baseline I went to Jerry at Eurocharged in Houston. I wanted to just bump up the performance without having to change downpipes and Cats, all while maintaining daily drive-ability. I can say with confidence that Jerry exceeded my expectations.
What followed was an epic dyno tuning session which consisted of over 20 runs - 15 on 93 octane, and then 6 on 100 octane.
The dyno's below speak for themselves...
93 Octane Run - Eurocharged Stage 1
new 93 octane EC stage 1 tune over stock OEM tune baseline
100 Octane Run - Eurocharged Stage 1
new 100 octane EC stage 1 tune over stock OEM tune baseline
With this new found power we took it to the track for some real-world numbers... trap speeds don't lie... I'm right lane... car 562
I also ran dragy on the run, with the following data logged...
I haven't been back to the track since the start of the holiday season as its closed down for the month of December... we plan of hitting the track again in the new year once it reopens.
If you are on the fence about a tune that definitely improves performance without requiring other modifications, then the EC stage 1 tune gets my full endorsement. I'm confident there is more in this car with this tune. if i can figure out how to improve my 60 ft times I expect an 11.3 is possible with this tune.

I’ve been on the fence about a tune due to warranty worries, but i am leaning more and more towards just biting the bullet and doing it.

That was my biggest concern originally as well to be honest, though at 70000 miles, my warranty is long gone.
Some other info on the dyno plots in the original post.
I bought a spare ECU and cloned the OEM stock file onto it, and then used that one for the Eurocharged file.
We strapped the car down on the dynojet and ran it with the original ECU for the stock run, then switched the ECU over to the Eurocharged Stage 1 file.
In this way, we were able to do a true side by side comparison of the tunes on the same time and day, with the same dyno settings, eliminating as many unknowns as possible.
I'm less concerned about the actual dyno numbers as well, but I wanted to see the deltas between the stock and tuned file. The key thing I love about this tune is how the power stays consistent across the entire rpm range, and doesn't fall off like some other tunes I've seen.

First of all, awesome thread and all the detail and breakdown!
the results are very impressive and truly the tune is working and it's only a stage 1??? Are you thinking of stage 2?

What was your stock dyno numbers vs stage 1 at 588whp and 721wtq?
I think stage 2 will give you around 620-640whp so that might take you in the low 11’s territory. But again how reliable will stage 2 be vs 1.
Thanks for sharing this info because I am always thinking stage 1 or 2.

although peak hp gains might not look all that impressive...especially considering the MASSIVE tq gains...there is almost 90hp gained in the middle of the rev range. thats damn good...

2014 AMG E63S and 2020 AMG GTC
Good day... this is stage 1.
I am very fortunate to have a few E63S guys in our local club and we are all doing different variations on a theme with our cars.
Two other guys are running the EC stage 2 tune on their E63S (2014 & 2015) with similar supporting mods (downpipe, decat) and its great to see the healthy level of competition between them. Even the smack talk is good natured...
I leave it to them if they want to post up their dyno runs, but I can tell you they are very near 800 awtq and 620 awhp on stock turbos, with downpipes and no cats...
Here are their latest quarter mile runs... so close to 10's on a Stage 2 tune.
Note the 60ft times and trap speed. They are coming out of the hole much better than me, and making more power up top as evidenced by the trap speed.
The increased torque and power from the stage 2 tune is definitely giving these guys the edge.
Look back to my stock quarter mile numbers in my original thread. The other car that I ran was one of these guys when they were stock! That's a massive improvement over stock with just a tune, downpipe and removal of Cats..

Replacement of the cat are the downpipes correct? And we need to dismount the engine to install the dp’s?
Are they both running straight pipe so no resonator and exhaust? Those are great numbers for stage 2. Reaching 10’s territory.

All I know is that they have removed the Cats from their exhaust, and both have modified downpipes. Beyond that I don't know what was involved.
They are both aware of this thread... perhaps they will post up their differences.
Conversely, reach out to Jerry at Eurocharged Houston with any questions you may have as he is intimate with all our cars and is responsible for the tunes.

All runs were made at Royal Purple Raceway in Baytown, Tx. The track is almost at sea level.
First runs were made in the summer in high 80's temps. The later runs were made in what passes for Fall in Houston in low 70's temps.
I don't know what the DA is for the track but I doubt there's much of a difference.

Dragtimes calculator says ~1900 was curious was the track was saying, if anything. We also get sticky nasty weather and can get DA's in the 2500 range at 500'asl in the STL area

Awesome thread and write up. Thank you.
Great times for a car with 70K miles as well. Running as healthy as it can.
Gives me faith in my car for long-term. =D

Shardul hey curious u seen any E63/W212 (2014-2016) dyno sheets of an AMS tune with your intake kit? ams tune alone is around 600 WHP for these cars, so adding intake kit to their tune should bump that to say 615-620WHP right?

Thank you so much for sharing this thread. I am on the fence between EC and another company for a tune.
I'm curious to know what don't you like about the fitment? If you open my hood you'll never know I have the spacer kit as it looks OEM, just raised and it does not interfere with how the hood closes/latches.

Thanks for the complement. I appreciate it.
My car club is renting a 1/4 track in the next weeks/months. We have multiple E63S across 2012 through 2019 model years and tunes ranging from stock to EC to Renntech. I plan on posting the results once completed c/w mods per car to give you guys some data to chew on.
Regarding fitment, I don't like how the ECU looks recessed under the cover when the filter spacers are used to be honest.
Do you have any pics of your engine bay? I've only seen a few engine bays and perhaps I'm not giving this mod a far shake.

Does the manufacturer have any performance metrics to support the mod backed up by independent testing? I'm typically skeptic of butt dyno's as they are notoriously inaccurate.
Thanks for the complement. I appreciate it.

There are some Dynos with before and after. But like I said the OEM airbox design is extremely flawed causing a bottleneck. All the UPD spacer does is free up more airflow that should be going into the turbos from the beginning.
I noticed after the install the car was a lot more responsive across the powerband and tires would spin where they didn’t before.
I’ll take a picture later when I get the chance but this is a great mod because would wouldn’t want more airflow going into their large turbos?

Brutus, I'm in Houston. Wondering why you decided on Stage 1 over Stage 2. Same price, I think. Did you come to this conclusion after speaking with Eurocharged? Was it concern over transmission/engine or something else? Giving consideration as they are just a few miles from me.

My reasoning for Stage 1 vs Stage 2 is purely because I didn't want to have to modify my exhaust on/or cats to truly harness the additional torque. I'm more about daily driveability. I'm also at 70K miles so the added torque of the stage 2 had me a little cautious. Having said that though, I've got a few friends running the stage 2 EC tune with zero issues and they are all knocking on 10 second quarter mile times, which is freaking outstanding given the minimal investment in a tune and downpipes.
I'm hoping I see an 11.3 at the track this weekend... fingers crossed.
