Great discussion guys.
Always ask this this before buying an AMG, hows the 0-60 blast feel? Is it money well spent?
The 0-60 blast in the X5M is good, but not brutal. I can get to 60 sub 4 but it’s drama free if that makes sense. The 80-120 is more exhilarating.
How is it in these cars? At what range do your palms sweat?

Someone school me on Carbon Ceramic brakes please.. I understand they are stupid light and stop on a dime so-to-speak.
What about replacement? Compared to the non carbon rotors, do they last longer? Do you have to use special pads? What about cost? What's a Carbon Ceramic rotor and pad job cost compared to standard?
I've never thought AMG brakes need improvement, but if this is the improvement, what does it mean long term..?

Same issue here on my 2016 long roof. The alcantara looked like sheeite when I took delivery. Mild soap and water, microfiber and a toothbrush brought it back to like new. Easy Peasy!

One more question, I see most 2015-2016 models with a chrome trim piece across the side skirt of the car, and most the 14’s don’t have it- until tonight I saw a 14 with this trim piece.
Was this a part of a package? Anything else other than the additional chrome on the side skirt that’s included in this package?

I say this about the alcantara steering wheels? WHY? The constant fussing of cleaning, washing, brushing etc. is not appealing IMO, and the wheel just looks funky compared to a leather or wooden one. At the very least, it should be optional and not standard.
Good luck on your next E63.

I have to say I really like it. I used to not get it, my racecar wheel is alcantara which serves a purpose but I looked at street cars and thought it was stoopit until we got our E63, now I'm shopping for an alcantara wheel for my M3 to replace the perfectly fine leather one. Wifebot likes it too. And if the wheel's not heated it's the next best thing on a cold day

The o-60mph on my stock e63S was awesome ... on the AMS tune I have now the 0-60 is violent.

0-60 is good but nothing impressive when comparing to its direct AWD competition. It’s the Achilles heel of the W212 to be honest. Alcantara is for headliners, not steering wheels. It loses in all categories compared to good leather. I can’t remember your location but you only have the S option in the states for those years but it’s not worth it if you’re going to tune anyways. LSD offers zero performance gains in straight line acceleration but I suppose there could possibly be something to make it worth the upcharge on a road course...maybe. The sound with catless DPs and resonator delete is the best in the business! A good healthy sound when not in it, zero drone at any speed, and outright blistering when the pedal’s down. Just wish it’s tuned performance numbers matched the sound.
Oh, and test drive on slightly imperfect roads. AMG thought they were making the suspension more sporty but all they accomplished is to make it harsh. Many cars are rattle traps from the beginning and they won’t get any better!

What do you mean they don’t compare? Aren’t these things stupid fast tuned? Don’t they have some crazy high HP numbers tuned??

Dood you’re killing me here. I got rid of the 2010 E63 because it was gutless in the speed department. Fun as hell, sounded better than anything on the road, but it was slow.

They're definitely quicker/faster than the M156 motor but in truth they’re dyno queens. They make great hp on paper or when in middle/upper gears but the tq limiting software kills launch and lower gear changes. Look up all the big turbo builds...all embarrassed to provide 1/4mile timeslips but YouTubing the h*ll out of their roll racing vids. If you don’t care about 1/4mile or full power standing starts then you’ll be pretty satisfied with it’s performance. If you’re like me and chase the 1/4mile, you’re in for some frustration!

You will like the m157 dont worry too much, especially once you tune it and unleash its full potential. Like Chiro said, if you dont care about the 60ft times that are being robbed by the tcu, you will be satisfied. In the streets it will be a killer with a good set of tires.
