M157 Oil Change Question.

Hey everyone,

So instead of taking my car to the dealer and them charging me a rediculous $600+ (CAD) for an oil change, I think it will be time to do it myself.

Now just for clarrification, if I pickup a Mityvac MV6412, 9 quartz of 0W-40 Full synthetic Mobil 1 oil, and one oil filter with o-rings then I should be good right?
No need to crawl under the car and replace the drain plugs and washers?

Any special steps I should know, aside from heating the engine up to about 90Degrees?

First time Oil Change diy here.

You only need to change the copper crush washer if you removed the plug from the drain pan.

M156 here. I bought a similar excavator for 80$ on amazon and bought the oil kit from FCPeuro. Oil change was too easy, didn't have to go under car at all.

You should be good to go with the supplies you have. It's very basic, just make sure do not over torque the oil filter.

Is it 20Nm for the filter? It’s printed on the cap on some cars.

Had a MityVac and didn;t like it. Bought this and used to change oil on my car. Works better IMO.

Is the dip stick tube on that long enough? Lots of complains about how short it is. Had a Mityvac a few years ago. Returned it because of spillage.

WOW that's ridiculous. Is that just for an oil change or for Service A or B?

22 foot pounds for a drain plug?!?!?!?!?! Why?

That's outrageously unnecessary.

So they qoute you about $800-1200 for Server A, and then for oil change it ends up being around $650ish, so it looks like a deal.

Dealerships here really try to rip you off, which is crazy.

Yeah that's crazy. Did stand-alone oil change in December for $125. Last weekend they had a special for $109 US and I live in a high income/high hourly rate area.

Thats a MB recommended tq spec 30 nm or 22 ft lbs. When i first bought my E63 at 15k miles and wanted to do an oil change, the drain plug was on there tighter than 50 ft lbs... And that specific dealer charges 300$ usd for an oil change, when i asked to clarify the price point they told me its “special AMG oil” LOL

Had the dealership do an oil change once and it was $260. That made me do my own oil changes since.

That's a MB recommended tq spec. Even on the oil filter cap, it states on it 25NM.

22 Ft Lbs is quite alot for a drian plug. I never torqued a drain plug in my life but my calibrated elbow is set so roughly 12-15 ft. lbs. lol

over 50 ft. lbs. is how you strip threads. That's why I hate having a shop change my oil because 9 times out of 10 the guy uses an impact gun to buzz the drain plug on. Better off doing it yourself and getting a little dirty.

I really urge everyone to do oil changes the way MB and AMG calls for via the drain on the bottom of the pan to get all the oil out and particles out.

This is fine for normal Mercedes engines according to Mercedes via their tech sheets, but this is NOT OK for AMG engines as described in their AMG oil change information tech sheet.

Every AMG engine should be using the drain screw on the bottom of the engine to drain the oil.
