Oil Catch Can

Did a search but only found results for M156 motors. Does the M157 need a catch can? It is a direct injection motor, but I can't find anything on it. Where does the oil go that comes of the crank case breather valve? If it goes back into the intake manifold like most cars then does this mean our liquid to air intercooler is getting covered in oil?

YES oil mist/vapor flowing into the charge cooler WILL oil coat the cooler interior surface. IS there a drain plug on the cooler? A BIG problem with 'direct injection' engines is deposit formation on and around the intake valves. The deposits eventually reduce the air flow through the intake valves.
Newer engines are now including small intake manifold injectors spraying on the intake valves to keep them clean. 50 years ago when LPG was first being used in farm engines, Marvel Mystery Oil developed an 'Inverse Oiler' which dripped MMO into the air intake stream fur 'upper cylinder lubrication,' to dramatically reduce wear on valve guides, piston rings and cylinder walls. The 'inverse' name was for how it increased MMO flow when engine manifold pressure dropped indicating higher engine load.
An 'oil catch can' added into the blow-by line to intake plumbing will catch a lot of the oil mist so you can periodically dump it out.

When doing my turbopipe install, I noticed oil throughout the Turbo inlet and Intercooler inlet piping. To the point that it had pooled in the pipes and dripped out once they were removed. This is definitely an issue on the M157s.

I'd suggest two catch cans on the crank case breather couplers connected to the Turbo Inlet pipes. Have yet to get to it since I've been dealing with some transmission issues. Will be posting on this in the future though. Thank you all for bringing it back up though.

one car at a time
would love to see where others have placed the cans and routed lines....the e55 was a real pita with limited space and I suspect the e63 won't be too different.

Has anyone figured out how to set this up? My S63 has 14,000 miles and I would like to get a catch can on there ASAP.

Haven't got around to doing it but I was looking at one like this. https://www.motionraceworks.com/prod...s3-ls6-ls7-ls9

I notice there are breather valves on each crank case that run back into the intakes where the rubber couplings meetup
