2014 e63s model good after 100kmiles?!?
I’m looking at this 2014 e63 s and it has 108k miles and I’m really interested in getting it but I was wondering how those new s models are standing up during high mileage, I’m planning to catless down pipe and tune that pretty much it to get it to at least 700hp to the crank but back to the point is a 100k mile s model any good? I know the 6.2s where able to go high mileage with the head bolts replaced but what about these new awd ones ???? What should I be expecting to break what should I look for ect

Hi youre most likely looking to hear from the W212 members and their experience. Check out the AMG W212 section of this forum for better assistance. 700HP sounds like many fun times!
Cheers.

It can get expensive at those miles and the big question is how well was it maintained up till the 108k miles and how hard was it driven
https://mbworld.org/forums/w212-amg/...63-4matic.html
what does this car cost? Would it kill you if you had to dump $3500-7500 in repairs over a 2-4 year ownership?
if so... move on

Depends on how cheap you're getting the car for and if it's bone stock. The car will last you a long time but like Peter said things will start to add up his estimate of possibly spending $3500-7500 is pretty spot on. Check the maintenance records and go from there if you can turn a wrench or have a good indy mechanic and the car checks out and is priced low I'd go for it.

But buy this car for how it makes you feel and for the thrill of ownership --- not for repair anxiety
drive it and decide if it's right for you .... I love my 63

To the OP - you are buying a $120k car for a fraction of the cost and then you tune it to ge to 700 HP, more than 99% of all performance cars out there. Yeah, that will cost you. But a lot less than a newer E63 (in depreciation), or a true sports car with 700 HP, etc.
Life ain't free, you will pay one way or another.

lot of miles but if taken care of should be a nice weekend car. As with all the AMG, if you buy them cheap it is best to hold back 15K for up keep.

Bough mine with 88k on the clock. It’s got a great service history and most of the major maint items (tire, brake rotors and pads, plugs and modules) were replaced with in the last 3k.
Owner drive highway miles and traded on new wagon. I’ve got some money set aside for repairs but not 7k.

How much do you estimate the tires, brakes, rotors plugs and modules and labor would have cost in total out of pocket? All together

W212 and M157 are both generally reliable! Take care of them, do maintenance, good and often oil changes and you will be fine.
if you tune her, i wouldnt push her past 19psi..

Labour is the big unknown. If you know what you're doing you can probably do pads and rotors for $3k and it's maybe $6-7k at dealer. Parts are expensive but Labour is crazy. It's not any harder than my wife's C300 but it sure cost more at the dealer.
What's the asking price & history?
Can you swing a big repair if needed?

Sad to say...but these are not the Benz cars of years past. They are not designed to last, they just don't have the raw materials that they once did....If you think you're going to get a 100k mile AMG repaired out of warranty at your dealer, I'd say think again......I'd move along, but to each his own.

If things start going south with this platform, it will get real expensive real fast. A friend of mine had a 2012 E63 with a m157 that was on its way out, dealer quoted around 80k usd to replace the motor with a new one. The car was ecu tuned and around 80k miles. It was consuming like 1 qt of oil in less than 100 miles. So much oil was getting in to the combustion chamber that it would put out the plug. Not long before that he had his tranny and diff rebuilt, costing more than 10k usd.

the e63 is more than an engine .. its airmatic, pano roof, 50 motors inside the interior, modules and advanced headlights, it's aging Benz lock actuators and harnesses ... can a backyard mechanic fix all this cheaply?
when you pay $35k for a used super sedan, it's a rough pill to swallow when someone says you have a $2500-7500 repair.... aaaaannnd then you have to do it again in a few months
buyer beware

Most used car shoppers won't have the opportunity to realize if things are going south until they have the car for a few weeks after purchase. You guys talk about how easy it is to maintain the m157.... an m157 is likely easy to maintain if it was perfectly maintained by the two to four previous owners that a 100k car will have had ... let's be realistic

He did drive it hard but not to the point where id say he abused it. He was on top of the maintenance, even exceeded the normal id say. He got the car when it had around 60k miles and things were already downhill, it only got worse with miles.

So how was he able to predict this?
This is why buying a rather used e63 is a bit of a gamble

He didnt predict it, he found out the car had issues few weeks after the purchase like you mentioned earlier. Had he gotten a ppi from a trusted shop, itd be a different story probably.

Go on cargurus and search 2011 s63 there's plenty with 160k+ miles (m157 engine). Make sure to buy a stock car and get a PPI done. The car is definitely not cheap to maintain/repair but thankfully used low mileage engines are coming down in price I've seen some long blocks for $10k on ebay (doubt you would need one). I've never heard of a tranny or diff issue on these cars due to the torque limiters, ams and weistec both make upgraded clutches and if your rear shocks fail arnott has replacements. Also vrp speed has turbo upgrades that can be done without pulling the motor if you need to replace your turbos. FCP euro now has brembo replacement front rotors for $450 a pop. Don't blindly walk into a dealership everything can be done for 1/2 the cost or less. Get a good mechanic or do the work yourself if you don't have either then I would stay away from any European car.

Biodegradable, study that word well. There are a lot of biodegradable fitting in the E63, I had two of them and I worked on them so I know them well. At 100k miles plus these biodegradable fittings will start to fail. Some will cause instant lost of all coolant, some will slowly leak, and these AMG loves to leak just ask my brand new drive way. Anyway, enjoy it if you buy it but please remember it will cost you just a matter of time. The engine, transmission and brakes are robust. It just the little ****s that will get you
