Just had my coolant reservoir replaced a few weeks ago. Minor leaking/coolant staining was noticed at ~61,000 miles on my 2016.

Here is how I temporarily patched the hose that broke. I used a 7/16 ID hose (3/8 should also work) and slipped it over the two halves of the broken hose and clamped it on both ends. So far (1 day) so good.

The M157 coolant lines are horrible. I'm beginning to think MB had them made from some seriously biodegradable material that is not heat resistant. Never have I ever had coolant lines on any previous MB fail so quickly. Just junk.

Nice work. I did the same on my 06 e500 while the part came in fcpeuro. It worked so well I never installed the oem piece 😂

on the e63 I decided to spend the extra cash

Well karma has caught up and now in addition to the cap leaks now I have my own pinhole leak.

It's not at the seam between the clear and black plastic but oddly in the middle of the clear. You can see the high pressure stream in this picture as well as dried coolant residue from previous leak events. Going to stealership this week.

Nice shot there . Swapping out reservoirs is easy enough pinching off the lines to avoid bleeding the system . Are these 157's self bleeding ? or is a vacuum tool needed if a more significant amount is changed or lost ?

MB replaced under warranty, service notes don't specify whether the system was bled just refilled.

They also found a stress-cracked turbo coolant line, presumably the plastic one and replaced without prompting. Kinda surprised actually.

It is not self bleeding. The WIS notes that bleeding the coolant system should be done with a vacuum tool. However, you can bleed via the old traditional method of cap off under idle. It take ALOT of time to do it that way on these cars, but know it can be done.

Thanks for clarifying . Yeah looks like fill/bleeding the intercooler side star is needed for activate the ic pump . Wonder if it's like the e55's where you can jump the fuse or pump to run to bleed it out ..

on the e55s, the coolant system wasn't a split setup (unless you did it yourself) and necessitated that step. If your car is a face-lift model, the system is already split and that's not necessary.
