Remote Start? OEM or aftermarket?
#2
I think OEM remote start is not available on w212, when i got my car cpo 2016, it came with free 1 yr MercedesMe subscription but after activation i was told that the remote start feature was not avail on this platform. I can track/lock unlock the car but no remote start which was disappointing. Also all the software were up to date.

I have a mid city unit installed in my 14 E63, very happy with it. You can either use the factory panic button, add in a drone mobile module or add in a 2 way remote pack.

For your car do you need an additional dealer key fob to stay in the car? Does the remote pack take the place of the oem fob or you need to carry both?

We've looked into this a bit, and the best we can tell is that the software for remote start exists on the vehicle, but the telematics on the vehicle don't allow for the software to be utilized. It's not until later model years that the telematics allow for this feature to be utilized.

Not sure if a key is required for install. I purchased the vehicle with it installed. The 2 way remote just gives you better range and confirmation that its started. You will still need to carry the mercedes key.

I have midcity on my 2014 and I highly recommend it! You can adjust the setting using oem buttons and screen and you can adjust when you want your heated/cooled seats to turn on along with the defroster.

The only problem with Mid city is you have to give up a fob to be placed inside the car. I just paid almost $700 for a second fob. I won't pay another $700 on top of what they charge for the unit and installation.
Sorry Mid City.

The second key remains in the car so if you ever decide to take the system that you get your key back. And not to mention you can unlock your car anytime and anywhere from your phone to access the car. Instead of saving the second key in your closet you’re saving it in your car. What’s the difference?
Or I could just use the "me" app and pay $360 for 2 years?

If that’s the case then you’re right it’s not worth the install.

$700 for a key means your dealer ripped you off unfortunately. When we install these units I can get a key for the customer usually in the $300 range. I also agree that it isn't ideal to need a key for the MidCity unit to function, but it alleviates having to cut into the car and hack things up which I refuse to do

If it were up to us, we wouldn't make the key sacrifice to the install a requirement, but we're working around MB's most current security platform, which now requires a key to be present in order for the engine's ignition sequence to take place. To MB's credit, their DAS4 (most current) security platform is multiple times more stable and secure than the the DAS3 platform. However, without the sacrifice of a key to the installation, an aftermarket remote start on these late model vehicles is just not possible.
We are proud to state that our system, paired with an RF kit of choice or Drone Mobile for extended range, is the most reliable starter option out there. If you change your mind, we're here to help.
