Question Brake Pads & Rotors: Dealer Quote $1,600??

Hey everyone!

I recently got a dash message saying "check brake pad wear" so I reached out to the dealer to give me a quote and he came back with $1,600 for pads & rotors... I have a 16' E63s with around 35k miles CPO & still under warranty

Wanted to seek advice on if it is necessary for me to do both the rotors & pads and if this price is reasonable??

If people have other solutions aka aftermarket pads / rotors I can purchase and get installed please post links to those products!

For all 4 rotors/pads with OEM replacement at a dealer, that is not unreasonable at all. Our brakes are pricey. Other folks on this forum have been able to save some money by buying from https://www.fcpeuro.com/ and self-replaced or used a trusted mechanic.

Is this for the front axle? If yes then 1600$ is not bad at all if you just want to get it over with. Otherwise you can get the rotors from fcp euro and a set of trw pads which will save you about 600$ if you are willing to DIY.

- I doubt all 4 pads and rotors need to be replaced at the same time

As others have said our MB OEM Parts are not cheap... but still your looking at under a grand for pads/rotors front and back.

This can be done by an experienced tech in less than 2 hours... so a "Reasonable" Price is $1,200 and I'm being generous...

Are you handy ? if so no special tools required for this... other than a torque wrench...

My dealer floated a $3k bill to my ML63..... After looking up parts I went back to him and said so when do techs get a thousand dollars an hour ?

Mike

Also FCPeuro has a lifetime guarantee on all their parts they sell, yes even oil and filters.
Might not be worth it on the rotors because of shipping but on pads it's a good thing.

I've just bought those rotors from a company called autodoc and got them and 2 sensors for 800 euro! I already bought pads all round for about £135 back in the uk awhile ago.

Here is the link if anyone from the UK or Europe need a set of discs

That’s a great price OP (if it’s for all four, even if just for the fronts it’s still not bad for a stealership), yours lasted about 5k miles more than mine did.

Thanks for all the info guys! Since i'm not that "handy" and will be getting the installation at Mercedes, what makes more sense performance/ cost wise: buying pads or rotors online vs @ the dealership?

My thoughts are if I buy pads online they'll provide less brake dust than say the pads Mercedes would install.. Not sure about rotors though?
