Put in my deposit for the Ohio region. How many people are signed up this far for Cincinnati? Any estimated time frame for the visit to this area?

Atlanta area...

I don't care too much about my quarter mile or hole shots....but would like a less "lazy" box in the automatic modes. No one has talked about downshifting here...any concerns?
Let me know if we can do this remotely...

1. This can NOT be done remotely. See here for sign-ups & cities.
2. This TCU tune decreases torque/boost limiting so more power is available, especially in gears 1-3.
3. Line pressure is increased there by decreasing shift times and firming up shifts.

Update!! Well been really testing and putting this tcu tune to the test and I must say it’s extremely consistent. Anyone thinking about it needs to just jump on it. I definitely do a lot more brake boosting hard launching then most in this forum, my car has just over 100k miles on it since I got it with very low miles. One thing I should add is definitely upgrade your motor mounts and tranny mount it’s the icing on the cake. No more it’s the DA and the cold temp.

cigdig - Congrats brother that 10.6 and sub 3 is amazing your car is Absolutely a beast!

What motor mounts and trans mounts are available to upgrade from the stock Mercedes ones? That’s a good suggestion and I wasn’t sure what’s out there in the market for upgraded mounts

Can this TCU tune be safely installed on my 16 CLS63S with AMS Alpha ECU tune? The reason I ask is because I know the ECU and TCU work in harmony and mixing vendor tunes makes me nervous. My car is still under CPO warranty and runs like a bat out of hell, but more torque to the ground without any wrenching is tempting.

Dave - let me know if your stage 1 TCU tune will function properly with my AMS Alpha tune and how that works. If so, I’ll sign up for the Burlingame tune. You can also PM me or email jdonavich@yahoo.com.

Thanks

I am signed up for this transmission control unit tune and I have the same AMS tune that you have on my 2014 E. 63S, I talked to Dave at length and it will not be any problems with your AMS tune and this TCU tune in terms of blending two different companies

This transmission control unit tune will simply let more torque be allowed in gears 1, 2 and 3 and has really nothing to do with the engine and how it's tuned

East Coast Euro makes stout billet and poly engine mounts, which is what several of us have installed, including @Cifdig ; I believe he filled his OEM trans mount with poly as there are no aftermarket solutions currently available.

Just to clarify a little here, in general, it is always a good idea ahead of time to talk to your tuner and make sure they are not aggressively reporting fake TQ to the TCU via the ECU.
Or you can explain waht you will be doing and that you are gonna tune the TCU and this method of tuning in the ECU is not necessary any longer, if they are in fact doing so.

The TCU gets it TQ value on Tq limits and other adjusting parameters via the ECU internal TQ calculation, so it looks to the ECU to provide it with accurate TQ calculations, so it can set its own parameters in the trans accordingly.
As i mentioned before, in simple terms, Many Tuners will to get around the TCU TQ limits, will report fake TQ via the ECU to the TCU. This lets them slide in more TQ than otherwise would if they were accurately reporting TQ. Most of the time this is fine when done mildy, but only becomes a long term issue, wear and tear, and driveability issue when they to to misreport too much.

Now having a TCU tune, this misreporting via ECU is completely NOT necessary. The ECU can report 100% accurate Tq values to the TCU, and they can work again in harmony together efficiently just like OEM tune.
So, alot of ECU TQ tricks, No good. A tad, usually acceptable, No ECU TQ tricks, best for ECU and TCU to work efficiently, smooth and effectively.

chiming in a little late here, but this is great stuff. I'm looking at options for my transmission as well. 2012 W218.
I bought it with a tune though, so I need to get that removed and put a known good tune on it first.

Speaking about the potential failures, I too am from the old DSM community where we tune it then break something, replace it with stronger, then tune again.
My opinion? keep street tires on it. I will always prefer the tires be the weak point of the equation because then you just get some spin.
Put on your stickies when you are record/ego running, then go back to the conti's.

The times reported by Cifdig above were on Continental Contacts .... I'd love to see his time if he ran DR's on a prepped track.... 10.5 perhaps?

I'm running DR's on the back of mine post TCU tune purely to reduce wheel spin. Prior to the DR's, if I launched in a conventional manner I would spin all 4 wheels out of the hole. It makes for a fun launch, but its not the most efficient.

Yep! I saw that he was still on Continentals and talking about spinning second in an AWD. That is crazy power! And we are all a little crazy here, right??
Seriously impressive times. I'm just commenting on the reliability portion of the discussion. There was talk of stickier tires. My $0.02 is to use those sticky tires for times, but take them off for the streets for less wear and tear on the drivetrain.
Many is the time I've heard of subaru WRX's back in the day breaking transmissions when they upgraded their clutches and tires. They moved the weak point from clutch, to the tires, then to the transmission. tires are cheaper than transmissions.

2015 CLS550 Shooting brake 4-matic
I have reading this Wonderfull stuff over and over again. This TCU tune is really amazing! I really would love that on my car but I live in Finland, so not a chance.
Maybe soon someone could produce "handheld" tuner that can be send all over the world!

I have seen on forum that E63 AMG torque limits are:
1st gear TQ limit: 650nm/ 480 FT LBS
2nd gear TQ limit: 800nm/ 590FT LBS
3-4-5-6-7 gear TQ limit: 900nm/ 660FT LBS

Does anyone know how low are M278 engine CLS 550 or E550 torque limiters? I didn't find that info anywhere. Maybe a lot lower than E63?? I think many M278 engine car owners would like to know that fact too?

My CLS is after ECU tune, 3" exhaust, intake mods still soo sleepy on 1-2 gears. Frustrating!

If you are planning a trip to Germany anytime soon we could put you contact with the right individuals to get this tune. It would be a drive and a half to get there, but the drive home would be quicker...

Yes, that could be a good option. Thanks Brutus! My tuner in Finland: https://motorbit.fi ( My car is in the website) is trying to tune my TCU on near few weeks, when im going to get new custom ECU tune to 3" Red star downpipes, E63 catback and DIY intake lifters that I fitted in since last tune. I think it would be very very hard for my tuner to crack the TCU and tune it for me. But lets see then.

That road trip would be maybe next spring or summer. I have a pair off M157 turbos and AMG fuel pumps and E63 rear brake calibers and rotors in my garage to waiting also. . That Covid also is something to think about on that trip.

I write you PM Brutus if its better? so I don't spam that thread here all over.

But if anyone knows that M278 engine torque limits it would be very nice to know and learn!

Just got my TCU tuned yesterday. S+ is much smoother (it was unbearably harsh before so I never used it) and definitely a huge difference in 1st gear. Previous shift hesitation is completely gone.
