Tcu tuned!

Updated personal best

Finally was able lock in and get a tcu tune . I’ll leave it to the person that helped get the tune state side to decide if he wants everyone to know. But I just wanted to share results

ec high octane race tune
red Star catless downpipes
edok stage 1 tcu tune

These runs I had to drop my brake boost down to 1500 rpm and I still spun second gear. But managed my best time even on my second try.

My previous best runs. Anyone who has seen my drags knows I post a lot and this is by far the best runs I’ve ever had no other things changed since my 10.92 but the tcu which was installed today

So.... before 0-60 (1ft) = 2.99 sec
after 0-60 (1ft) = 2.71 sec

before 60ft = 1.77s
after 60ft = 1.70s

before quarter mile 10.92 @ 130.43
after quarter mile 10.81 @ 129.57

I guess its safe to say you've seen an improvement. The numbers don't lie.
Congrats on the tune. I expect to see even better times if this was only your second pass with the TCU tune..

Now this is exciting! Nice results right away, I have no doubt you’ll figure out where to launch it and see more improvement.

Logic would suggest MB pushed it’s tranny to the limits where it could still live to see it’s 5th birthday. I don’t why they would engineer a large buffer given the HP and 0-60 wars with BMW, Cadillac and the like.

If this is correct, then a TCU tune is really setting up an early driveline failure. If incorrect, then MB are poor marketers and this tune makes all the sense in the world.

Hopefully the early adopters and their pocketbooks will shed some light on this!

My mind was already set from a few months back as I have demonstrated on the flex fuel 2 thread but this just solidified my intentions. Nice numbers congrats on pulling the trigger!!

From what I can gather drag slicks or Michelin SS at the minimum if full boost braking is to be attained. To hear that tires are braking loose on a AWD M157 brings joy to my heart!!!

I have always believed their is no replacement for displacement and there is more on the table to extract more to follow..

With anything the harder you push a car something will break. But then why does anyone even tune a car? More boost more heat the quicker the engine may fail or cause issues. I’m sure my clutch will eventually bite the dust or I may snap an input shaft. And if so I’ll fix it. But this is showing the potential this car has without upgrading turbos

I'm glad these 2 dont represent the aftermarket crowd then we wouldn't even have a tune. Should we be concerned maybe That is the risk every platform takes and the flip side is the enjoyment out of the reward.

Another question is this - are the torque limitations in the TCU there to help prevent wheel hop to any extent? Now wheel hop can happen due to a variety of setups/circumstances, I wonder when that may be an issue at the rear of this car?

Maybe I am overthinking, but it came up in a discussion with a tuner when I was vetting which way to go.

The solid axle setup usually have massive wheel hop thinking of the Ford, Chevy and Mopar crowd. The independent setup is geometrical opposed because of the positioning of the links. Short answer.

What I should have added the suspension in comfort mode let's the frame transition over the rear for a more planted stance

Thx

The TCU tune presented to the guys in NY yesterday is from a tuner in Germany with many tunes under his belt. This is his "safe tune" which increases the torque limits and works in concert with the ECU torque parameters - assuming the ECU is reporting correct torque values.
The creator of this tune has the ability to tweak the parameters up to and including complete removal of the limitations. There is still torque management occurring in the lower gears.
This tune has been installed on many vehicles in Europe and the Middle East.
The only people having issues appear to be the enthusiasts in the Middle East running these platforms flat out with torque management disabled.

Looking at Efrain's run, I'm amazed he got the time he got running Continental Contacts... throw some Michelin PSS's on there and I fully expect 10.7... safely.

I didn't bring this tune into the US, but I'm familiar with its parameters... that honor goes to another..

When I was running my modded 4g63 (DSM) it was an exercise of increasing HP, breaking the weakest link in the drivetrain (clutch was first), spending $$ to upgrade that part, increasing HP again, breaking the next weakest part (the rear drive axles), spending $$ to upgrade that part, etc etc.

I’m sure that’s the normal sequence of any build, but those parts were relatively cheap to replace and some of the more expensive components were over-engineered to an extent. I guess my own fear with the W212 is that we’ll find out the weak links are really damn expensive to upgrade and now we go from a daily driver with a few tweaks to an expensive track monster money pit. Not sure about you guys but I’m not some Saudi oil tycoon that can blow up a car on YouTube and laugh about it! I’ll be the guy weeping on the side of the road as his car is getting hauled away on the flat bed!

Do you know how much the tq parameters were reduced? Like 50% in first and 75% in second? Also I've heard rumors that eurocharged will be licensing this tcu tune. Anyone know an ETA on that?

100 tq across every gear
increased line pressure
clutch holding pressure.

If I can recall correctly

I don't know if EC is licensing this tune or a different one, or if in fact they are going it themselves.
With respect to a EC tune, I too heard those rumors and was told to expect something in one month... regardless, exciting times. First the flex fuel tune for the top end, now an accompanying TCU tune for the hole shot.
A lot has changed in the last 6 months to push this platform forward.

We are now knocking on the door of a 10.7 at 130 with tune only.
The next few months are going to be exciting.

exciting indeed - can’t wait until a solid TCU tune is available for us normal folks! No doubt we will see even better numbers on a prepped surface; assuming those were on...an unprepped surface.

After watching this I almost want to pull the tranny valve body and check out the solenoid screens. Seems like something that just gunks up over time and needs a regular cleaning.
