How much cats are there? Delete or Gutted?

Hey guys I got a tune its been about 3 months now and I haven't done any Downpipes. I'm thinking about deleting the cats or getting them gutted. Whats better? I heard gutted cats can be troublesome because airflow can get misdirected and cause turbulence. Anyhow, what are the setups you guys have? So far I've only deleted the mid resonators w/straight pipe and the mufflers are still on.

I heard that getting rid of the cats will really open up the exhaust flow.

You can go either way and there will be very little to no difference. Gutted cats will work just as good as a 1500$ catless dp’s aka mid-pipes. I remember someone mentioning that there was no difference on dyno between gutted and fabricated catless dp’s. If it was a NA motor then i could see it being a bigger problem due to its disturbance of exhaust scavenging. My friend had went gutted on his m157 and everything was great no issues at all.

Good advice just gut them and if your in a state that has emissions that will help cover the obvious. Not worth the dime and everytime someone ask for a true dyno or street performance proof you get nada.

I'm pretty sure I'm about to cut off the resonators. Do you have any videos of what your car sounds like for me to have an idea of volume increase? What's your opinion? I'm just tires of how quiet the car is.

Do it! I have a 14 e63s and this is the way the car should've sounded from the factory. I've only owned the car a few days but I couldn't stand how quiet the car was either. I cut the reso's and straight pipe to mufflers. Sounds completely stock until you get on it, 0 drone. Cold start is a little louder, you get a little gurgle when downshifting hard, and a sweet exhaust note when accelerating aggressively. Only cost me $150 and 30 mins at a local exhaust shop.

Eventually I will gut cats and do a full catback when I go stage 2.

Hey Sorry for the late reply! I'll send you a video once I get home, it will be hard to judge because I have a burble tune so you might hear some pops, but I'm sure I got a video somewhere with just the resonator delete. I'll send both your way, later today!

You could recoup that cost right now and end up making money by reselling the paladium that you took out of your exhaust. Scrap value for cats right now is absurd. A Subaru downpipe I threw away a few years ago and that people use to trade for 6-packs is now fetching upwards of $625.

There are various people on FB Subaru classifieds and local groups offering to buy used downpipes. They are offering more than junk yards.

^Sorry about the link. I've tried to get it to format properly but the forum keeps spitting out that. It works though.
