E63S Wagon 1/4 mile adventure
Last week Iron Sheik invited me to the track so I went. Thanks man! It was a lot of fun, and it was really nice to meet you!
2016 E63S Wagon bone stock
2195 kg / 4839 lbs on the scales with me in it
3/4 tank of 94 premium
Three year old almost bald stock 285 Continentals
Spare tire, sub, and everything in the car
It was a long busy weird day at the track and I only got two runs in.
11.9 @ 121 foot braked to 2000 and let off the brake in Sport+ comfort mode, but had traction control on (Sport mode) by mistake.
11.7 @ 121 foot braked to 2000 and let off the brake in Sport+ comfort mode with traction control off.
Both times it bogged. Check out the 60ft. I'm not doing something right. After both cars are staged, when the yellows start I mash the throttle and revs climb - but by the time I let go of the brake on the last yellow/green, the revs had already climbed to about 2,000 then they hesitate and go back down (computer freaking out?) so when I let off the brake, the car is in limbo and just sits there for a second wondering what the hell I want - STOP or GO? Then it figures it out and leaves. Zero wheel spin with all traction nannies off.
At 4839 lbs and 121.5 MPH the HP computed is 609.65 rear wheel HP and 677.39 flywheel HP.
Car 918 left lane.
Stay tuned for more!

Looks like the Stig had some issues at the starting line. Maybe he wasn't listening to his every so smooth elevator music.

you need a TCU tune! SOOOO much better launching the car now(bit of a difference in our transmissions as mine has a converter). I launch about 2,300 rpm and haze the tires through 1st. My best time so far is 11.3 @ 122 so I'd assume we're making pretty close to the same power. I know you guys have it better(stock) with "Race Start" or whatever it's called, but my car would NOT build ANY boost on the line before the TCU tune, wouldn't accelerate hard till about 40-45 feet. I need Drag Radials now...

Nice to meet you there man! =)
You did very well for the first time out!
With better 60', you are well in the 11.5's for sure!
Perhaps you need to update the thread with your most recent trip there
As mentioned above, TCU tune would shed off another 0.3's off because you'll be able to build boost without bogging the launch!
My car launches so much better with the TCU tune!

Is this the correct method?
1) Stage
2) Wait for yellows and mash the gas to floor, letting go of the brake on the last yellow, without going limp.
How long is typically the time before limp? I found it less then a second?

Yes this is totally it. At first I thought I could just ride the brake and boost it like a normal old school drag car - just hold under the torque convertor stall then mash hit. Nope - too long it goes limp.

Trying to cut a good light with brake boosting isn't easy. Brake boosting would have to start before the lights starting turning on but that would take a lot of practice to perfect. If the lights have already starting lighting I find that it's too late to build enough boost for the best launch.
My older cars spoiled me. One was a 6,000 RPM clutch dump on slicks, another one had a 5,500 RPM stall convertor. This one with all the computers and doodads is messing me up.

what I would do was time it so well after the 2nd yellow came on, I was hitting the gas while I still had the brake on, then release the brake as soon as the 3rd light comes on. The tricky part is timing it to where you're cutting a .501 light and releasing the brake when the revs are 1900...
or, just get a trans tune and call it a day...

This definitely takes practice! Not easy! But you will get the hang of it after a few more runs
While both cars line up and are staged, there is a 3 second delay (to me) before the initial yellow light starts!

In terms of difficulty, drag racing is the easiest thing you can do in motorsports, especially considering it's an automatic.
Brake boosting is easier than the race start, since you can prepare while being pre-staged. Just start when you're pre-staged, then back off the brake a little to get staged, then ramp up when the lights start going.
OR, don't worry about your Reaction Time. get Staged, wait for the other lane to get staged, then switch the car into Race Start, ignoring the lights. Go when you're ready.

Otherwise, like you said above.
I'm always trying to incorporate reaction time with it since it'll give you what the actual results would be without times

RT is only really for bragging rights or for bracket/heads up racing -- I doubt anyone here is running their cars in either of those types of races.

Not sure if you're suggesting Reaction Time (RT) has an impact on your ET/Trap -- but to clarify, RT has no impact to your ET / trapspeed.

But will definitely have an effect on who finishes the race first giving us what the outcome would be on the streets
Not that I'm encouraging street racing

I like to win.
When I see the guy in the other lane take off and I'm fiddling with brake boost RPM's and Race Start I just wanna GO and beat them to the line.
It's racing.
It's OK I'm practicing.
Maybe a tuner can tune in a simple race start! Remove the timer-auto-abort - I'd pay for that feature.

So I went back out.
1) Weather was hotter by 10C
2) I took the spare tire out
3) 1/4 tank of gas instead of 3/4
The car runs best with no rest. Just lap it, and it's happy to lap all day long. Very consistent temps and times.
Best MPH 123.00 brake torque
Best ET 11.67 race start
Best 60 1.870 race start
I hope to go back one more time with colder air and see if I can get an 11.5 before making any changes.
Not bad for a stock grocery getter!

Very respectable.
11.5 seems doable with a lower DA. now, with a TCU tune you can get those 60' times down to 1.6-1.5sec and you'll run an 11.3-11.2 at that MPH...maybe faster

You'd previously said you had a tune though, is why he asked. https://mbworld.org/forums/w212-amg/...ml#post7723313 Did you decide to run without the tune for some reason? What times do you get with the tune?
The times are comparable to magazine reported times, FWIW. 11.7@122 https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews...n-test-review/
