Maintenance? B1 Service?

Hey everyone,

I recently got a warning that I got a B1 service due and now its overdue by 2600kms... I was wondering if anyone has done this service themselves and is there a DIY thread or video on it? Also I got a message that I should add 1 liter of oil to my engine. I have never seen this on any car I've owned. Is this normal? Should I just do a complete oil change? I did one back in May(a month after I got the car just in case), but I never got any messages for an oil change due. I figured I would get one eventually? Then again I heard that oil changes aren't done as often on these cars, I could be wrong.

If someone could tell me how I should go about doing the oil changes also what I should reset on the dash when I'm done, that would help a lot. As well as the B1 Service if I should get a shop to do it or if I can do it myself. Thanks

Hi Mikesoja, I know we just met but your questions give me great pause you know how to service this car. Maybe you should just take the car in for service for your overdue B1 Service and low oil. Why question the 1 liter low oil warning message because none of your other cars have done that? The engineering put into checking your oil level isn't a dash board joke nor up for debate or to be questioned!

Well I want to work on the car myself? Whats the issue with asking questions before attempting to do so? I made the post for DIY help not suggesting I bring it to the dealership..

Check the service manual for directives. Usually an oil chance and some air filters, tire rotation etc. How many miles?
FWIW, my car requests oil to be added every now and again and has always been normal

"Well I want to work on the car myself" still sounds like you're not prepared to do so. Questioning the 1 Liter low warning says a lot.

"Whats the issue with asking question before attempting to do so" sounds like you did absolutely no research or forum searches on the subject of B1 Service or oil changes first. If the info is available here you would ask questions in the threads you search for.

Most people looking for detailed maintenance info seem to say or post "I searched for XYZ" but did not find.

At that mileage, 75ish K miles, other things will certainly need to be checked and perhaps replaced; again this is where the service manual comes in handy, good luck to you!

My 2013 SL550 popped up that message recently and I obediently went to the dealer and had it done. The service is almost entirely inspections, except they change the engine oil/filter and the cabin air filter. I had already changed the cabin filter as well as the engine air filters so I asked them to not do air filters. But, the service is a flat fee for labor ($422 in my case) so all I saved was the cost of the cabin filter.

I think next time I'll just ask for an oil change and leave it at that. I get an oil change once per year since I never put much mileage on this car.

Oh, they also check and clear the A/C condensation drain hose and other body drains, which is good to do once in a while and would be an easy DIY if you're willing to crawl under the car.
