E63 Wagon Rust Bucket
I was interesting in the 2014 E63 wagon VIN WDDHH7GB2EB047074 Vanquish Motors in Concord, CA. had in stock, so I sent them a message through their website and the owner, Moe, promptly called me. He told me it was a car he bought for his wife, thus it was in excellent condition. Since I lived far away and would have to fly in to see the car, I asked him if there was anything else I needed to know or any issues with the car. He said no, the car was excellent. I applied for a loan at the bank recommended by him, right across the street from his store, and flew to San Francisco. After almost an hour in an Uber in traffic I get to his shop. Right away I noticed rust on the wheel bolts. When i looked underneath there was rust on all bolts, brackets, suspension parts. At that point his secretary probably gave the owner the heads up and he didn’t even show up to meet me. I asked the secretary if they knew a place I could put the car on a lift to check the undercarriage better. She turned pale. After being on the phone with the owner for a while and telling me they couldn’t find a place available, she allowed me to take the car out and look for a place myself. Well, a few blocks away there was a tire shop and they lifted the car up for me. Not only there was rust everywhere, the front bumper as broken.
This is the kind of business that give car salesmen a bad name. Btw, when I was outside his shop waiting for my Uber I saw him approaching the store in a Mercedes CLS, and when he saw me he took off. So beware of this business, I wouldn’t buy a bike from them.
Beware.

It has popped up at another dealership now. An actual MB dealership. They're asking $62,500. The very first thing I noticed was the excessive rust on the vehicle and the mismatched paint on the front bumper.

You’d think you are somewhat safe buying a car form an authorized dealer, but it looks like it’s not the case. I wanna see them selling this one as a CPO!

I know, I was very excited about it. But there were some red flags and I should’ve known better. Front end damage, replaced windshield.. There was more to it than just rust.
Unfortunately there are very few E63 wagons for sale on the west coast, and I’m afraid most of the east coast cars are going to have the same rust problems.

2017 GLE350 4MATIC
Or it sat in an impound or insurance yard for a long time rusting and UV-ing away.

Looks like it was originally a Quebec, Canada car. Probably the worst province in Canada for salt use. They use SO much there! I would avoid any car from that province that was driven in the winter.

Wow. Didn't realize pricing was so firm on these cars right now. Still can't pry mine away from me :-)
