Facelift tail light swap

I have wanted to do this since I bought my wagon and feel that I am ready to start gathering everything. From what I have found, to do the swap, you need the tail lights, bumper/associated parts and exhaust tips. It seems that at the very least, the connectors need to be de-pinned and re-arranged. I have also read a jumper harness is required. From what I can tell comparing the two styles, the connectors are a different shape so I would need to find cutoffs of the facelift chassis harness as well. What I am not sure about is the coding needed or where I can find someone to do this.

Can anyone else confirm what is needed before I start buying all these parts? If I do proceed, I intend to document the progress and process here.

I can use simulation mode in vediamo to guess at what your current coding is, and i can give you stock 2014 sedan coding if needed. you'll have to find someone local to do the changes.

I've ordered the bumper cover. This is the PN for 14-16 AMG wagon bumper without pdc btw.

I know you bought the tail lights already but I think there are some tail lights offered on the market that are plug and play

Yes there are plug and play lights for the prefacelift sedans only. Its the shape of the prefacelift lights I dislike the most though. The facelift are a little shorter top to bottom where it wraps around the fender. I also much prefer the bumper on the 14-16 as well.

It does appear that the plug and play facelift lights for 10-13 sedans comes with jumper harnesses and a coding box. I would be willing to bet if I bought a pair and used those parts, I wouldn't need to code the facelift lights.

How different so they look and are you going to work on the front too?

They are a completely different style and are shorter top to bottom where it wraps around the fenders. Which is why the bumper needs to be replaced too. The bumper is much better looking as well imo. I prefer the pre-facelift front end.

I still can't figure it out, what and where is the difference besides the lens ? Shape seems similar to me, no?

Look at the bottom of the prefacelift light where it wraps around to the fender near where it meets the bumper. It's a hard corner. Now look at facelift. Its got a subtle curve. It's because it's shorter. The pre-facelift tails are considered too tall. Which is why you need the bumper to fill the gap. The bumper itself has a lot more differences as well.

.. I agree, the pre facelift bumper sits higher too and I also think even the post face lift wagons, needs a rear diffuser to add some volume to the rear too

Here are direct comparisons of my car and my favorite facelift car, the Renntech demo vehicle which I missed purchasing by a month. You can really see how much taller the pre-facelift tail light is.

CKM reached back out to me on IG. I also watched the video but it doesn't go into much detail about the rear.

It appears you just need the tail lights, bumper bar, bumper cover, diffuser insert and exhaust tips. It requires you to de and re-pin the stock connectors and update the coding.

I will document the pinout change here. Buying all the chassis connections cut off as well in case the wire colors match to make re-pinning easier.

Very excited about this!

I've gotten all the part numbers to get the night option parts for the rear bumper swap. Ordering this week and will update with the photos and part numbers.

I didn't realize there were sport and luxury tail lights. I had bought 3 luxury and 1 sport. I've found the driver side sport lenses but need passenger side now.

Getting closer.... thinking about doing the facelift sideskirts as well. For a while I wanted to do the rear doors but the pre-facelift has grown on me.

Hi there I have a 2011 E250 Estate and I have just completed full facelift front and rear to E63 AMG kit. Because my car is the estate and not the saloon, i have fitted genuine parts, all four rear facelift 2014 onwards rear lights, changed rear bumper also to 2014 model. The outer lights seem to need no wiring changes, i have made wiring changes to all inner tailgate lights so all lights perform as they should. However I get error messages on dashboard,
Brake Light Left
Brake Light Right

Also on the outer lamp units the inner brake LEDs illuminate at a low power whilst side lights are on. Can you please assist me with what needs to be coded and wiring harness details so I know the wiring I have done is correct.

From your posts you have already done this conversion?

I have not done it yet. Still compiling parts before I begin. Need bumper cover and exhaust tips. The coding will be what I really need to figure out. Will have to find someone to do it.

No i am still awaiting some information on coding for the rear lights. Wiring changes were straightforward but I still have dash faults for brake lights every time I start the car. The pre facelift lights have brake lights in the inner lamps and the facelift only has brake lights in the outer units. So with wiring changes and no programming my car thinks inner brake lamp bulbs are out.
