Front end clunk/creaking
MY14 E63s Wagon face lift 93957 miles
I have a clunk on my front end. I originally had very bad squeeking and clunking, and found a broken lcross strut, the bushing failed. I replaced that and it cleared up most of my noise but I still have a clunk...
How to recreate:
Slow take off from standing stop. When the front suspension unloads, I get a slight clunk or knock. Very quiet.
If I'm turning slowly on a tight radius (think parking lot parking) clunk happens. Sounds like driver side. Not entirely sure.
When reversing out of my driveway, also get lots of clunk, but I also have to make a tight turn to back out, full lock on the wheel.
When standing with car on, turning wheel, it is apparent there. I hear the noise when going from full lock left hand down, to full lock right hand down. I get the sound JUST before center on wheel. Only apparent in that direction so far.
And from research what I can find as possible culprits;
Strut mounts
Swaybar and linkages
stearing rack
I do have a leaking diff in front, pretty confident it's the seal, on passenger side. I have a warranty (after market dealership warranty) but I'd rather fix it myself. Thoughts as far as what it could possibly be.

Yep. That’s exactly what mine looked like. I bought the new seal, got the ball joints removed but couldn’t get the axel shaft off. Took it in and had it done. $500 later figured out it wasn’t the seal.
Had them fill it with Royal purple just to confirm by color… it was the motor mount.
Let us know on the clunks/creaks. I’ve replaced both tie rods and the smaller linkage on the bottom that commonly fails. Helped but didn’t fix it all.

I'm fairly confident it is the driver side camber control arm bushing.
Extremely common failure, happened on mine before 10,000 miles. There are threads on here where people talk about it happening repeatedly.
One thing I find funny, when people post pictures of these cars on bring a trailer, I almost always noticed that the driver side bushing is shot. Lol
Anyway, I was able to fix mine just by pressing it back into place and tack welding it.
However, if I replace mine, I'll go aftermarket since the factory one always fails. I believe RockAuto sells them

yeah well they're charging me ... per issue... which is in its own right stupid as ****... 165 for the diff to give it a look over, and 165 for the clunk. Thats the down side to these high milage beauties... i may have gotten it for 1/3rd the MSRP but its still a $130,000 car when you take it in lol

See, I was able to find it on rockauto 3 weeks or so ago (check my post history) and I found it by filtering by my specific car. Now it's not there.... it fits perfectly. It's the exact same size in every dimension, except it's a smig thicker on the strut it's self and the bushing is significantly more robust.
