Are y'all with OEM LSD on your e63-S' thinking the wavetrac is superior ... and if so why is it worth the upgrade? What will it gain you?

I recently just did my front differential and my rear differential. 2015 e63. And I definitely did not need a case spreader. I also used a Quaife LSD and needed no shims, grinding absolutely nothing . which is why I prefer using this particular differential . The differential needs to be installed prior to you putting the bearing race on. It goes in on a particular angel and no other way . At times it may seem like it won't fit, but it definitely will go in. Also the snap ring does not need to be filed down at all . You are supposed to throw the snap ring inside the freezer, this will allow the snap ring to shrink ever so slightly. You use a little wd-40 and apply pressure to the snap ring and it will pop right in. Quaife lsd is all gearing and no clutch discs at all. I will do a write up asap.

Also which is extremely important . Anyone doing this needs to make sure you install the snap ring at the correct position . At the top there is a small hole that gear oil goes through, so that it lubricates the outer side of the bearing. If you close this hole up, you are going to destroy the bearing in a short matter of time.

My '13 E63 RWD w/ P30 came with an open diff. For a couple of years in North America, P30 came with carbon fiber motor cover instead of LSD (was a stand-alone option). Hence my upgrade to an LSD. If one already runs OEM LSD, keep it. Drexel is a great LSD worth every penny.

The forum can benefit from a D-I-Y article. You bring many important points one can overlook. Your install looks like a serious overhaul... with rear subframe drop, etc. What happened? Also, what were your measurements in the end, contact pattern?

That’s the carrier I chose to go with. Good for a road car, especially a car with a slight tendency to under steer.
It’s a 1.5 way limited slip, Lock under acceleration and deceleration are different/adjustable.

btw (just to clarify for anyone) the spreader isn’t to spread the case to install the carrier (as it is on some diffs). It’s to set/check proper preload for the carrier bearings to MB specs. They’re trying to simulate (MB engineers) what happens to the case installed, at operating temperature, under full load acceleration.

Good Luck.

Started the install on my Wavetrac this weekend, while waiting on parts I decided to clean up the undercarriage a bit.

It would be interesting to get feedback on the difference. That must launch like a rocket.

Got the Wavetrac all assembled with new bearings, races and seals. No shims were required. I did have to shave the differential housing a bit so the Wavetrac could slide in. Quick work with an angle grinder and flap disc.

I'll button it up over the weekend.

Nicely done!

Did you need to sand/replace the existing snap ring with a thinner one?

The factory snap rings fit perfectly with the Wavetrac.

In order to jack up the car to place it on jack stands as above... what do you use as jacking point? The diff? Wooden block directly under the cooling fins?

Yup, wooden block under the cooling fins. Never had any issues jacking it up that way.

Took it out for a drive this morning, what a difference it made! Car is much more predictable from a dig.

Also installed my Edition 1 side decals and added a 35% tint to the reverse lights. Looks a lot more aggressive.

well done - easily the best most tastefully modded w212 PFL that I've seen to date

do you have a tcu tune?

Thanks, I've enjoyed modding this platform.

Haven't done an ECU tune yet, who's the best TCU tuner out there? I've heard EDOK is the best but doesn't do remote tuning?

Edok is best - mine was remotely tuned but by EC ATX guys at their shop ... no remote tune for individual customers (yet)

Sharp eyes, @Robert AMG . the 6.3 fender badge agrees. I could not burnout with my M156 W211 without a blower. I think the M156 platform options are limited to 450 WTQ with an ECU tune. Need other tricks to push M156.
