As I mentioned in the video, from information I gathered from installing and testing the blackboost intake as well. IMO the intake and exhaust on the M157 are made "adequate" for the power levels mercedes designed for the m157.
In other words, If you were to put a intake and exhaust on the m157 with ZERO restrictions, the gains would all be negligible.
Mods that sustain the designed condition, (heat dissipation, cooling for example) will in theory prevent power loss situation, but but its very hard bump up the power on these with out tuning. Because the ECU controls the boost, as long as there aren't any conditions (like high heat) that would cause the ecu to intentionally lower it, it will always command the designed boost. The blackboost and downpipes may increase the efficiency, meaning the duty cycle of the wastegate may be better, buts its not going to ever increase the boost.
HOWEVER, if you're tuned, then yes, you likely will be pushing past the limits of what the exhaust and intake can handle. power gains will be noticeable. As well as lower duty cycle on the wastegate with actually benefit the car.
Anyway, The downpipes look great, Im very happy with the fitment. The only tweaking was the sliding bracket is angled, and it really needs to be straight, although the flimsy stock brackets conform easily.
Sound. The cellphone speakers wont show the difference, but their a subtle, but noticeable increase in volume, basically like a little growl from the inside and outside maybe 5-15% louder.
Performance: So I lost a lot of draggy runs when i changed my phone, but both stock and tuned a set new personal bests. Especially considering the "before time" i used to compare were all the blackboost times, yet I am running a stock intake now.
So essentially, BB is a bit better then stock and downpipes only are a bit better then BB.
1 month in and about a 1000 miles, no check engine like with the 200cel cats.
Lastly, In the video I said I was debating selling these. the price point if i bought in bulk would be about $1100 shipped for catted, which I believe is less than half of what the redstars are.
Im still on the fence on how to do this. Im really not setup for that (i.e forum sponser, Taxes, customer service) https://www.alibaba.com/product-deta...417e2fc2u8TXgn
Once again, @kenneyd, awesome job. Thank you for all your efforts, the R&D, the videos and your time to write this up. I wanted to ask you, over at youTube, but decided to wait for this thread, why didn't you go with 3" piping (2.75" instead)? And, yes! At your proposed price point, sign me up for a set!
Also, thank you for the comparison in performance with the BB intake. I was totally thinking the same (Them not being worth $1400 as a mod on a otherwise stock car).
I don't see guys where the benefit is by swapping original exhaust with the same aftermarket design using cats and same diameter upper collectors,
my car went from 8.5 seconds pure stock to 8.2 seconds with only change is downpipes including bridge pipes catless 100-200 km/h on same stock ecu.
Well, spent a few days on YouTube and Google looking into this subject, there's a lot of technical differences between the two, however, didn't find info significant enough for the W212 E63S AMG. (facelifted) to make a informative decision on H vs X, or just resonator delete.
There's the scavenging(technical) aspect, the sound aspect and proper location of said mods, and again I couldn't find more details specific to this car.
I've watched plenty of vids, some good, some bad, etc. There are some vids that are mainly focusing on sounds of the exhaust, and even complete replacements like FI exhaust specific to this vehicle, but has no X or H pipe or resonators, just mufflers and valves.
I've got the downpipes w/o cats and looking to replace the resonator with a H pipe, but I'm not sure which one benefits me more since I'm going for stage 2 as well. (currently stage one) and I've heard plenty of different "general opinions" from tuning shops and videos but not satisfied, except the FI Exhaust option. (parallels/independent) (got a quote for 10k for the complete kit installed)
I could just go with the general flow, but I'd like to experience something different, against the grain, maybe both at the same time XH or HX lol.
I got the same downpipes as Kenny minus the honeycomb ( I like it dirty).
The Europeans are all over it, but no consensus on the best outcome since each vehicle is different and they have more custom options than USA models. https://forums.mbclub.co.uk/threads/...-pipes.278767/
Question for those who already have moded exhausts on the w212 facelifted E63S
What's your exhaust setup ? and If you could go back in time, what would you do differently and why ? or why one is better than the other, or for those with stage 2, what works better in terms of technical and/or sound.
Also please keep comments vehicle specific, thank you.

I have a Supersprint catback, which has an h-pipe, on the stock downpipes. IMO it makes the car sound a bit too "Dodge truck" for my liking. I'm debating going back to stock or replacing the H with an X.

Thank you for this comment. I have been thinking of going this route and was looking for a sound clip/vid to no avail.
Are your SuperSprint mufflers the Sport or F1Race ones? Guessing all the piping is 2.75" since it all bolts up to stock DPs?
I did catless downpipes.
If I could go back in time the smell and noise WOT aren’t worth 15HP or whatever. I’d leave it stock.
Catless sounds better part throttle but like you said WOT it's dodge truck. I preferred throaty at WOT not raspy.

TIA for info.
Sport mufflers. I don't recall the diameter since they have been on the car a couple of years now. Supersprint was super responsive to emails though.

Thank you so much for the links!
I understood what you guys meant by "Dodge truck", but I do not hear "Dodge Truck" in any of these clips. Raspy... yes. I think I am still leaning twd. doing the exhaust if the F1s have a 3" inlet (or could otherwise be modded to accept a 3" inlet pipe).
Hello Everyone......
my name is Roberto with SuperSprint Italy.
First, none of our exhaust system (regardless of which auto brand) has an unpleasant sound. There is no droning sound and zero raspy tinny sound. We never release our exhaust system product unless the sound is perfect. We actually have a R & D department at our facility in Italy. Our exhaust parts are strictly hand built by our expert craftsmen fabricators.
If you need anything or if you have any questions please contact me via email and I will do my best for you. I am your advocate with your SuperSprint exhaust needs.
Thank you.
Respectfully,
Roberto
Sound is always subjective to the preference of the listener.
One common misconception that i feel is way to prevalent is Loud = good. Now 'good sound' can absolutely be loud, sure. but not all loud exhaust system sound good.
IMO stock is pretty good on these, but a bit quiet. Most of the straight piped m157 sound terrible to me. they sound like a raspy, fluttery old truck.
The stock system is 100% straight though design, no baffles. the resonator is a H-pip inside, with perforated pipes surrounded by fiberglass.
The mufflers have a small open pipe into an empty chamber, but the majority of the flow passed again through a perforated pipe with a very small fiberglass absorption area.
True duals and H pipes typically are more raspy and low pitched. X-pipes seem to "smooth" out the sound and raise the pitch on other applications ive used.
So far Im loving the 200 cel cats sound, If it was to try something else, I would try an Xpipe.
