valve cover leak
I just took the car on a long trip to PA and noticed a smell of oil. I did some looking around and looked like it was coming from the driver side valve cover near the dip stick. Upon getting home I did some more searching to make sure and that was the only place I can see oil.
I called Mercedes to order a valve cover gasket so I can attack this myself. They tell me that there is no valve cover gasket and that I have to do the head gasket. when he hells me the price of $2400 for the kit I explain to him. I do not have any fluids mixing. my oil is clean and so is my coolant. why would I need to change my head gasket? I literally thought he was joking and I asked him, are you messing with me.
I then called Mercedes in white plains,ny and the gentlemen also has a hard time finding the valve cover gasket for the drive side. valve cover doesn't have a gasket he states. He told me what I need is part number 0039899820010 mb sealant.
Can this be correct?
Anyone have any directions on how to do this? I did it few years ago on my e60 5 series and still do not have any issues. That was easy because I had an actual gasket.
Any help would be appreciated. Anything else I should do while the valve cover is off?
Just to clarify it is does not sound at all like you need to even look at the head gasket. It'd be more of a concern if you had actual head gasket symptoms

Any idea on the bolt pattern and torque of putting the valve cover back on? I'm going to be attacking this over the weekend.
Also just to make sure. the fuel lines have to come off from both sides?
edit. i got this already but one line. No clue how that suppose to come off.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you
