E63S Iron to Carbon Brake Upgrade pics and part numbers

There’s a few “gotchas” I’ll post about with part numbers.
On the front I required upgraded brake lines, different splash shields, and most importantly the proper caliper to knuckle brackets.
On the rear it was plug and play - just swap calipers and rotors.
I researched many options and decided to stay OEM for less hassle, easier dealer service, proper rear parking brake, and the gold. THE GOLD!

Looking forward to the write up so we can add to sticky - this will be a legendary thread

New left and right lines required with no tabs to fit into the gold CCB calipers.
Iron front lines have tabs
EDIT: These hose pics are for 2WD! They were wrong for my AWD, I'll post pics of those when they come in.
AWD correct hoses are:
218-420-01-48 left
218-420-02-48 right
2WD Hoses:
222-420-03-48 left and right pictured:
CCB front lines no tabs

I was lucky and swapped brakes with a member here and we figured it out and traded brackets. I don’t think Mercedes sells these brackets! You will need to buy the whole caliper assembly to get them or find a donor car. If someone has a source for these brackets I’d be interested to know.
I also did all new front bracket to knuckle bolts just to be safe.

Old iron brackets - you _will_ need a breaker bar!

Dealer quoted CAD$32k before labour!
Dealer part numbers below but they left out the front hose part numbers that I posted pics above.
Warning! I’m unclear if the caliper part numbers for the front calipers include the caliper to knuckle brackets. I would encourage anyone proceeding to double check that! The brackets seem to be unobtanium.
EDIT: I had to buy new calipers to get this project done, and, they come assembled with the brackets

Congrats on the upgrade! I am sure many members will use this as reference for their own future upgrade.
Please post up driving (Braking, rather) impressions!
The Best of Mercedes & AMG
1. Brake lines - is that tab the only thing preventing those lines from working? Do the banjos screw into the new calipers? If so, then grind off that tab, and run them. Flip side, brake lines are a wear item and sometimes it's good to replace old/worn stuff with new.
2. Dust shield - Is there any interference on the iron brake dust shields or just an extra bit of coverage? If there's no interference, could just run the iron ones on the CCBs.
3. Brake caliper brackets - Easy to fix if you have someone create a CAD model of it. Give me specs and I can do that and post the STL file for someone to take to a local library to have 3D printed and tested. From there, you send them to a CNC shop and make copies. I just did custom brake hats for another car:

2) only extra bit of coverage. I didn't want any hassle of rocks/chips on the inside, or potential (imaginary?) heat problems the CCB could throw off vs. the smaller irons. The shields are cheap, a couple hundy from dealer.
3) absolutely! They are just brackets, no rocket science here.

I have a small issue with the front hoses rubbing and the way Mercedes looks up parts by VIN is hindering me finding out. I think need a slightly longer hose.

The hoses I'm using are too short, they are for 2WD cars.
The correct hoses for AWD cars are:
218-420-01-48 left
218-420-02-48 right
2-3 weeks from Germany. Ouch!

I'll correct my post above WRT part numbers

the same banjo that doesn’t fit.
What I figured out is, the 2wd calipers have direct line flare caliper holes, with shorter lines since no front axes to route around.
Seems when they changed to AWD and lengthened the hoses to go around the front axels they also changed to banjo bolt calipers.
I need direct lines made since on further inspection the 2wd gold calipers are not machined for a banjo bolt and fail to seal, plus the banjo bottoms out.
So Monday I get to call around and have longer flex hoses made or find ones somewhere online.
Takeaway when doing a caliper swap:
2wd to 2wd ok use the 2wd direct flared line flex hoses
AWD to AWD ok use the longer banjo flex hoses
AWD to 2wd ok use the longer banjo flex hoses
2wd to AWD no Mercedes flex hoses will work. You need to make direct line hoses that are long enough EDIT: THIS DID NOT WORK SO I BOUGHT AWD CALIPERS see below
2wd direct line style flex hose but it’s too short for AWD
AWD banjo flex lines DO NOT TRY TO TORQUE DOWN too long bottoms out will not seal on non-banjo calipers
Correct 2wd line on left is too short for AWD cars that use banjo type hose on the right
Need to make / source longer direct line hoses
Flare in caliper. 2wd caliper not machined for banjo bolt washer.

I'm going to John Stewart Power Brake today to have front hoses made. I'll probably have them make me spares too since I have created a Frankenstein, which is ironic, the whole reason I stuck with Mercedes Parts was for easy serviceability. Ha ha best laid plans.
NEXT TIME I would suggest anyone following in my footsteps in being a frugal **** buying used parts is to only get AWD calipers if you have AWD. I didn't think it mattered, and it does matter when it comes to the hoses.
Oh well, now I'm an expert

Guys we get used to it and think it's normal but our cars are stinkin' fast. Save for a handful of exotics the E63 is top of the heap.

Basically you need AWD calipers for AWD and the AWD lines.
These are the front left and right part numbers from post #6.
Shiny!
They come with the caliper to knuckle bracket already installed.
FWD won’t clear axels
AWD and banjo clears axles and the tabs keep it from loosening when the calipers move with steering and suspension. Bending custom lines are still too close for comfort and can wiggle loose.
FWD left AWD right

This has been a great learning experience. I sure hope I save someone else the time and expense!
