Smoke from Pass/Rear door????!!!!!!
Driving errands getting ready to take over a new clinic....well, the speaker in the Pass/Rear started to "crackle" a bit...odd. Then, we could smell burning rubber/plastic. After about 20 seconds or so smoke started to come out, up out the door handle opening and allong the glass.
I took the door apart right away and can find no real evidence of anything. There is one rubber grommet with multiple wires going into the door that is a bit "rubbery" - for all I know that particular grommet is supposed to be rubbery. Nothing felt hot, no codes on the door (well, now there is as I took out the sill lamp)...
Any ideas guys? I am at a total loss.

So it was smoking behind the passenger rear door panel....... Soft close still work? Power lock still works? Ambient lighting still work?

I know this is a long shot but did you happen to accidentally stop on your way to fulfill your errands and pick up these two guys???

This has been known to cause smoke coming from the windows either opened or closed.![Big Grin](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

As of right now...
-- 1 bad amp channel
-- 1 bad rear speaker
Knowing that I started un-latching my left trunk panel to provide more cooling air volume.
The amp has a built-in fan great!
Once the nearby air is all heated, the amp heats up too !!
Amp uses a thermal paste that dries out....
Components heat up including the infamous 16V caps.
The datasheet of power IC chips says they are protected .... yeah sure: equal this!!!
The digital audio system is Hifi but power wise it's fairly limited.... our human ear drums also has limited power handling.

This is your main amplifier sending DC current into speaker voice coil.

I am having the same issue with my driver side tweeter. One day I was talking with my wife on the phone and all of a sudden it started crackling bad and smoking, so I shut the radio off and it continued until it completely fried itself. I ordered a new tweeter but I am getting no noise out of it when plugged in. I then tried it on the passenger door and it works... I am wondering if I am having an amplifier issue or a grounding issue somewhere. I have not disassembled anything yet and have left the tweeter disconnected for now. I am starting to get tired of only hearing "highs" through my right ear, however... Reading the other forums PeterUbers shared with us, it seems like the only fix has been to replace the amplifier, BUT there was one user who reported crackling after replacing their amplifier but they did not state if they replaced their bad one with a new or used, OE or aftermarket one.
