Just be super careful with the screw on the turbo if you're changing the metal parts... low torque. See thread at https://mbworld.org/forums/w212-amg/...-n-tricks.html. A poor soul on that thread broke his off

Well fan removal only took 4 hours. Blistering pace.

Similar to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gvPt...nel=ZakiGarage, but AMG has more screws at the bottom

That is an awesome video - very clear and useful for access to many of the service projects that occur on the front of the car...

Sounds about right... this "5 hour" job took me 13 over a weekend...

Just wait until you get to the part where you have to put the new turbo coolant lines into the turbo (read my thread first)

Yeah I'm thinking of doing the hose upgrade and not touching where lines connect at turbo. I did get a slim head socket though.

It’s a tough PITA job, but it definitely pays to do it slowly and take (cussing) breaks lol. Accept that your hands will be shredded but your car will have a new lease on life once successfully completed. If you go coolant line mod route, look forward to your feedback/pics etc

Yeah removing the fan was much more annoying than I expected. I had it in my head that these fans are always easy to pull. It does go back in easier than it comes out if that makes you feel better. For the charge pipe reinstallation, I had much better luck installing the seal to the turbo first, and slipping the pipe over. It would not go on any other way.

If I need to do this again, I will also upgrade-in-place. Easily would have saved a few hours. My only worry is how long those o-rings last inside the turbo... but, since the right side is built the same and doesn't seem to fail, the left side can probably last a while too.

We just need someone with a 3D metal printer to reproduce the nipples at the water pump end and those dumbass plastic flanges and pipes around the water pump.

OK waterpump out. I have 2 questions. 1 . I slightly scored the aluminum lines when cutting off the plastic at the water pump. Am I hosed now on the upgrade trick and need to replace ? 2 I don't see any evidence of any kind of sealer/permatex on the WP gasket nor does the WIS say anything. Did You Guys use any?

The other thing I forgot to post was one of the long WP bolts far right and down low came out covered in oil. I gotta try to figure that out too.

I agree with the no and no... but I'd also probably put a very thin (very thin) film of silicone or equivalent just to be safe

Probably nothing. I recall seeing that too. If that's the right bolt for the hole and it's not leaking externally, I doubt it's an issue.

I have a gasket for the oil cooler, if I can figure that one out I'll replace it. Finding torque values in the WIS is time consuming for a newbie.

Do it. You’ll cuss yourself not much later if you don’t. They leak. You’re already mostly there
