Checking timing without disassembly?

Does any have a trick for checking timing without disassembling anything major? I found a video of a guy checking an M276 through the sensor holes but wanted to see if anyone had any advice on this subject. Thanks! M157

ZERO DISASSEMBLY...

you can read the correction being applied by ECU to make up for minute "chain stretch".

When in doubt... go ahead replace the limp tensioners that leaks oil pressure the VVT Gears need.
Tensioner looseness allows camshafts to roll forward using available slack... that detunes smooth even timings.

Best tensioners are racheting type. Here instead MB went with low friction...

Sealed oil pressure is the only thing that can keeps them put still. The shaft seal is also its rubber guide soft bearing... keep 'em mint for free with lifetime warranty.

What do M278 post-mortem, inspection and repairs video have in common ??

dry interm. shaft grooved ($500Ea.)

4x chains setup
4x chains setup

They share standard failures:
New Camshafts + VVT Gears + Tensioners.

Here we missed seeing cylinders walls /pistons rings /con.rods bearings.

What ties all this destruction :
Built-in Limited Lubrication!
