E63S M157 which oil level sensor trust ?
It seems that 3 different methods could provide the engine oil level on a M157:
- Oil dipstick (engine at temp after 5 min off)
- Dash cam error message (add a quarter...)
- Xentry oil level reading
On the basis that the Dash cam error appears and that the dispstick and xentry are not detecting any level issue, does it mean that :
- There are 2x oil sensors. One used for dashcam warning and a second distinct one used by Xentry ?
In other words : the dashcam could be faulty when the Xentry could be OK, matching the dipstick - Dipstick is always right (when measure protocol is applied) ?

Oil level is normally a non issue unless oil keeps disappearing...

the dipstick can be unreliable unless its level, hot, and you've done 3 wipes after engines been off, but theres oil in the turbos, the heads, etc
sometimes itll tell you its low and to add a quart when you stop hard downhill or give it a good rip on the freeway, youll get to level ground, and everything will be quite fine just add a splash anyway as a buffer
you don't wanna go 2 quarts over though, you'll get aeration from the overfill/positive crankcase pressure which is not great. If you get air in your oil you're stripping the oils ability to provide hydrostatic lubrication
I've been filling MB's about a half quart extra on my personal cars my whole life. Business cars get exactly what it says they should. 9.5 goes to 10, etc. Porsche people have been doing this forever.

So, as an old man, I will continue to trust the oil dipstick (which is giving a lower level when engine is cold (half) than when it is warm (full).
I guess that it is temp related.
