water pump replacement

My 212 E63s has a leaky water pump.
initially a plastic pipe was leaking, so changed that, and now it is the water pump itself.
It is NOT the turbo hoses, as I checked them.
It is dripping from the bottom of the water pump.

I know this is not a fun job.
I am trying to prepare for this, and starting a prayer list to ALL the gods !!
I was looking to swap the turbo pipes ( plastic parts only and put a rubber hose between the old aluminum pipe and the new plastic pipe .
Any suggestions ?
I have a new water pump
I have a new plastic thermostat.

Anything else that will be expected to break while I am there ?

And any suggestions ?
I can't seem to see how to get access. I did the plastic pipe before, but even if I could remove the fan, that would be a help.

Does the fan need to be out ?

Thanks for that, on all the ones I read they seems to change the whole turbo water pipes.
Not sure if my car is different ( Right hand drive ) but getting to the turbo end of the water pipes seems impossible.
I am sure I read somewhere that they left the aluminum part on the turbo and cut the plastic off and did the same to the new pipe and fitted new plastic end to the pump and made a small hose joiner with hose clamps.
cant seem to find it any more. anyone done this ?

It’s not impossible to reach them, but it is definitely a PITA! I’ve done it a few times on two different W212’s. You need a very specific thin long ratchet and you will likely bleed/yell/cry. Don’t forget to do the oil filter housing gasket and the spring-loaded piece on housing. How many miles on your engine?

Apparently it’s called oil filter housing thermostat cap…plastic circle with locking tabs and o-ring. Costs roughly $20, hopefully attached a pic below

Fan does not need to come out. It has not been mentioned on this thread but I also would simply replace the plastic section of the hose for the driver side turbo with a rubber hose. Couple different threads reference the exact Goodyear brand hose that you can use. No matter what, every fitting every plastic piece and every other cooling hose in that region you will be replacing.

why do you suggest replacing this ? does it need to come out ? or just do it while you are there. my car has done around 120,000 miles.

but as mentioned you’re gonna need to replace all of the plastic you come in contact with. This means you will have to buy new hoses in order to get the new plastic connectors to then upgrade and modify. Plastic fittings are not available separately in the aftermarket.
