Is the 3d sound system option $4550.00 worth it?

Has anyone heard the difference between the regular system and the 3D? Hint, European buyers who have the 2017's? I'm debating whether to change my order and get the 3D system. I am a Audiophile and like a good system. I do feel the standard harmon kardon system in my current 2012 is good sounding one and from all I read on the outgoing 212's the bang and olsen upgrade really was not worth the over $6000.00 it cost as an option. I don't want to spend an extra $4550 if there really is not that much of a difference in sound quality, I do know the upgraded 3D one is much more power as far as watts per channel goes.

The internet search I just did confirms that this is a really good option and probably worth the extra money for anyone that likes a good sound system. The base system is really good, the 3D system is simply amazing and the best system out of just about any car. Plus the spin out tweeters when the system is turned on would be really nice to have too.

My MB Salesman claims the 3D audio is not an option on the wagons in the USA, not sure if it's available on the Sedans. A lot of the info on the wagons has yet to be released. Darn it, I really wanted that 3D audio, I was reading about it last night and it sounded great.

Yeah, it looks like the 3D audio is not available in the wagon. I think the problem is that it actually doesn't fit in the wagon. The configurator on the German site confirms that it is not available in the wagon anywhere.

I guess in the Sedan with the 3D the amp takes up about a third of the trunk, that would be something for somebody to consider who is thinking about getting this option on the sedan.

I've heard it, it's very good for a factory stereo but is it worth the money, it depends:

1) in terms of what you get for $4550 definitely not! you can put together a better sounding system for a lot less and a killer system for that money.

2) If you dont want to get into the hassle of an aftermarket system and you would hate yourself if you were in a car without an acceptable stereo then yes. but understand that at that level, it's still a compromised system. You arent getting the best speakers or components, if you think about it: why would they go through all the effort to shed weight, including leaving you without a spare tyre only to add weight by piling the car with multiple heavy audiophile grade speaker magnets? The answer is they dont......the speakers they use are as cheap as chips all embedded in clever sound processing wizardry, they are also the same speakers they use in the standard system, just more of the cheapstuff and a subwoofer and a show piece tweeter.

3) if you were happy with the 212 HK, Then i seriously doubt you need the 3D.

4) An audiophile is a person who is enthusiastic about high-fidelity sound reproduction I doubt any TRUE audiophile can ever be really satisfied with any factory stereo especially having spent so much and knowing what he could get. I have seen many articles on various forums by people who describe themselves as audiophiles when in fact what they mean is they love listening to music, so I would be would be wary about taking advice from people on the internet whose ears may not be as finely tuned...best thing is to take some sample tracks and go listen to a w222 or w213 with the 3D...it doesnt have to be an E63. it's the same system in both cars.

5)That said, I modified my order to the 3D +pano only last tuesday simply because I figured what the heck, I'm too old to be butchering my car!! it was initially Audio 20 + no sunroof with plan to build my own system.

6) it's a $100+k car, whats an extra $4.5K for something that obviously matters to you...consider it peace if mind insurance.

its the same speakers they use throughout the Burmester range

Wow, well maybe it's for the better I could not get it in the wagon. Although I do understand those high up mounted speakers on the roof with the 3D add a lot of ambience

I have the 3D system in my S65. I think it is fantastic for a car audio system. We ordered it on our E63S. It is currently scheduled to be built the 3rd decade of June.
