No Leather wrapped Airbag on E63?

I've been looking at the new E63 and I love it (as most of you do I am sure). One thing I have found interesting is the lack of a leather wrapped airbag?

Most of the high end AMG cars have a leather wrapped airbag. My SL63 does and I know the S63 does too (not sure about the CLS63). I know the C63 does not, but that's a lower end model. I know its not a big deal in the large picture but I think it takes the interior to the next level and I cant understand why MB wouldn't do this in E63?

Anyone else noticed or bothered by this? Pics for reference...
This is from an SL63...

This is from an older C class I believe

I too would like to see a leather/stitched center cap.The look is so much better. I am going to ask the dealer if it's possible to order one that works with the E63.

I could be wrong but the S63 steering wheel looks pretty identical to the E63

It could work?!?

It's missing the touchpad surfaces. I don't think that will work. You would have to look at the new W222 AMG S-Class with the new steering wheel. But no idea if this works.

I think we're just talking about replacing the airbag cover or the whole airbag assembly with a leather cap piece. That is how i'm going to approach my dealer. Also, It's the previous generation S-class that may have an interchangeable part(s). The new S steering wheel is totally different.

No leather in my ED1 but I really never even gave it a 2nd thought; it has zero functional surfaces that touch what i would deem necessary:

First off, beautiful interior! Your choice of vehicles has always been on point!

I understand that you don't ever touch the middle of the steering wheel where the airbag is so its not something you touch and feel everyday, however from an aesthetics standpoint is looks cheap. a base C300 will have the same airbag cover basically. Mercedes obviously knows this as the S class and SL (and not sure about which other higher end models) all have leather wrapped airbags. So the purpose of this post is just questioning why the E class wouldn't fit the bill for a nicer, more luxurious look like the other higher end models.

I hear you. I just never even noticed it until I saw your post Things like alcantara headliners and full leather dashboards have made a greater impact for me but then again Im not a super interior "need" owner anyways though but I can see why others may wonder.

I agree with you. The good news is that you can add the leather airbag yourself and it only costs $639.

Here is a vendor which sells them. BTW I think the airbag is new not used - you should contact them to confirm. They are legally required to list as used because they aren't an authorized dealer. At least that's what they do when they sell Porsche airbags.
