Performance Exhaust: Opinions

I ordered my E63 in July and it still isn't in production. I didn't order the performance exhaust. For those that have it and those that don't... I'm looking for any opinions. I have a Ferrari that sounds glorious but it also turns the cops heads when I lay into it. How many volume levels are there on the PE and in comfort mode is it as quiet as the stock? Thanks for any and all input.

I have it. Even in comfort mode PE is very noticeable. MHO - can live without PE unless I want to impress somebody and get attention from teenagers.

If you are asking if you should get it or not for fear of it being too loud, I will say go ahead and get it. I listened to two cars being revved at the dealership holding/storage bay. The PE can seemed a little quieter (barely) in comfort mode than the standard exhaust.

I have the acoustic window treatment and performance exhaust. Without PE on and motoring around my place, you really can't hear the exhaust. With PE on, you can hear the car much more loudly. Also I have read, though cannot attest to, that PE is one of those options will make your car more resellable in the future.

Performance exhaust was a must have for me even though I have an R8 with its amazing exhaust and engine note. I'm still in the break in period so I haven't floored it yet but with comfort you get some crackles but on S+ the car's melody comes alive even with the acoustic comfort package. I like hearing the exhaust from my cars but if that isnt important to you, non PE still is aggressive in S+. I do agree though that resale might be better with the PE since AMG is known for its exhausts.

The PE for me is great. I tend to run the car hard in the rpm cycles so I get to hear the growl and barks often. I have the AP though and if Im just cruising in the high 2k rpm range; I cant really hear it all too much but I do know its there. The PE is nowhere near the sound db wise that a F car has but then they arent trying to compete (my 458 and FF both had Capristo mods so they were very loud). My R8 has a Remus straight pipe exhaust and its way louder than the E63S PE but still not over the top. The PE could be louder for some but I think Benz hit the nail on the head to please all sides of the coin; those who want more docile sounds but some major roar with on throttle.

I have the PE exhaust on my wagon and it will be up for sale soon. The PE exhaust is a straight exhaust pipe from the downpipes to the muffler section. I will also be selling the tips because I am changing the whole set up on the car.

I think the PE exhaust is a great option on this car. I would not have ordered it because I am changing it but the car on the floor that I bought had it. If anyone is interested in buying mine, it will be for available in about a month as soon as the Brabus exhaust comes in.

I don't know for sure whether the exhaust for the wagon fits n the Sedan, mine is a wagon.

Interesting, I was told and thought I saw post cats attached to the DP's downstream? If one has a good muffler shop they could pull these for more sound and no CEL.

Nope, just the primary cats and straight piping all the way to the mufflers.

thanks for the clarity so the only real way to increase (not improve) sound is to go with DP's or change the cans... The only aftermarket cans I know of are Capristo ones and they are not that much louder for 5k or whatever msrp is.

I did a set of downpipes on the car already and I took them off because they sounded terrible. I am going to change the downpipes up a little but and try some high flow cats and see how they sound. I am adding the Brabus exhaust and not 100% sure how it is going to sound when it is done, I will let you know. The Brabus exhaust is expensive but I really love the tips and the rear diffuser that Brabus makes so that is going on the car.

The thing that is driving crazy is how bad the downpipes sounded. I have not heard anyone else comments on the sound after downpipes though. Do you think that nobody has really done downpipes on these cars yet because I was waiting to hear some feedback. If I come up with a good sounding downpipes I will let you know but so far the off-road downpipes with the PE exhaust did not sound so good.

The think I hate most about the engine its how small the air filters are in this car. They are ridiculously small compared to the older E63 and it seems like the filters will be a limiting factor in making horsepower in the car right now, they have a really small surface area.

I dont know of anyone here or local to me that has dp's on this 213. I have a friend who did it on his E43 and he didnt like them and swapped the exhaust back. He said his sounded very "tingy" but I was never able to hear them in person.

It's a AMG, of course you want it to be louder and its only to impress yourself not anybody else.

incorrect.

All have the h pipe section near the downpipes.

PE has variable bypass mufflers
