Well..

Trump recently announced a 20% tariff on all cars produced in the EU.. (Tried to attach a link to the tweet, but this doesn't seem to work here)

2019 E 450, 2016 E350 4matic (retired), 2018 Ford Edge Sport, 2008 Porsche Boxster
The lease on my 2016 E350 4matic ends in December and I want to replace it with a 2019 E450 with the Luxury package.

I have gone over the DOG for 2019 and compared it to the pricing for the 2018 E400 4matic.

Here is what I notice are the biggest differences in the option package, which I would like someone to confirm:

2018 E400 4matic:

· Premium Package 3 $10,200 contains:
  • Active parking assist
  • 12.3 digital display
  • Heads up display
  • Adaptive high beam assist

These four (4) options are now “stand alone” options for 2019.

On the 2019 E450 I believe all of the other options contained in the Premium Package 3 are in the following packages:
  • · PO1 Premium package $3150
  • · 319 Exterior lighting package $800
  • · 996 Parking assistance package $1290
  • · 997 Driver assistance package $2,250
  • · 463 Heads-up display $990
  • · 464 12.3 Digital instrument cluster $850
  • · Total $9300
Is there anything else that is in the 2018 Premium Package 3 that I have missed?

Finally, I have the parking assist (self-parking) on my wife’s Ford Edge Sport and I have used it only once in three years (my wife has never used it). If I can parallel park, do I need the parking assistance package (996)?

Thanks!

Why the GOP gets behind this twit is still mind-blowing. I fear this will come to fruition before I take delivery of my car, at which point I will cancel my order. MB has already provided earnings warnings on the loss of income from sales to China on vehicles produced in S. Carolina.

What a waste.

Currently, vehicles shipped from Europe to the US face a low 2.5% tariff. Meanwhile, cars built in America face a 10% tariff when they're shipped to the European Union and light trucks (SUVs and pickups) face a 25% tariff when shipped from the US to Europe. Trump wants to make it a fair and level playing ground. If you can't understand that, then you're the twit.

Well you're partly right.
The United States currently imposes a 2.5 percent tariff on imported passenger cars from the EU and a 25 percent tariff on imported pickup trucks. The EU imposes a 10 percent tariff on imported U.S. cars.
I guess you just forgot about the 25% tariff on european suv's and pickups? lol.

Let me help you with your math deficiency: 10% > 2.5%.

I never stated anything of the kind, you need to re-read and comprehend what i wrote please. Can you do that?

Let me help you with your comprehension problem. 25% > 0%. lol. Keep trying to spread your fake news, it's amusing and also pathetic but that seems pretty standard these days for some people.

Trump did not announce 20% tariffs on all cars produced in the EU. Look at your tweet quote. He said the EU has long placed substantial tariffs on US cars and if the EU doesn't change that soon then the US will impose similar tariffs on EU cars. This is not an announcement that the US is imposing tariffs. This is a message to EU that fair trade is on the way. The EU has been killing American car manufacturers with its high tariffs for years and all President Trump is saying is that the EU needs to either tone down their unfair trade tariffs on the US auto manufacturing industry or the US will do the same to the EU manufacturers.

He did indeed announce a 20% tariff on all cars imported to US from EU, he tries to change the trading balance that has been for a while. I guess most people know this is not the first tariff Trump has initiated this year.

I think you are mistaken. Trump said, "[I]f these Tariffs and Barriers are not soon broken down and removed, we will be placing a 20% Tariff on all of their cars coming into the U.S...."

So while it is true that tariffs could be imposed, they have not been imposed yet.

20% Tariffs WILL be put on all imported cars. I am certain this will happen very soon.

I would ask that those who reply accept this as highly probable, and that this discussion becomes one of "How will 20% tariffs influence my buying decisions?"

Should make interesting reading ...

Important to point out that a tariff is a tax imposed on you as the buyer. Mercedes and all other companies that export their cars to us are just going to collectively shrug (you don't fret about things out of your control, you just adapt) and there's going to be a line on your deal that adds 20% to the bottom line that goes straight to the government's coffers for no reason beyond our President decided you should pay 20% more for a car because they want to make it financially prohibitive to buy the car you actually want and also because our cars are more expensive for customers in other counties due to their taxes. It's dumb, it's all dumb. It's dumb that VAT exists in Europe and that Australians pay crazy "luxury" tax rates on cars and it's going to be insanely dumb that one day a car that stickers for $100k one day is suddenly $120k the next. So, in their infinite wisdom, politicians are saying "if everyone else is paying taxes on their imports, we should get some of that money too". If you have any illusions that this is about "being screwed by other countries" or "making our exported cars more competitive" and not that the government just wants more tax revenue, you're crazy. You’re also crazy if you think the government will just remove a 20% tax on car imports once they get away with doing it and get a taste of that tax revenue, even if a foreign country removes their’s...but they won’t because they also like the tax revenue. This is one of those taxes on us you never want to happen because it will never go away.

Whatever your political affiliations, I think we can all agree that a car being artificially more expensive than it should be is dumb.

Thumbs up

I guess this means Canadian vehicles will become even cheaper than they are now in comparison to south of the border.
Good news for the Canucks out there.

Umm, are you sure about that? Didn't the gov reduce or get rid of the Luxury Tax on luxury cars not too long ago? The gas guzzler tax was reduced also, wasn't it?

No, AMGs have just been getting better gas mileage and therefore the tax is less. It’s based on combined gas mileage.

Trump’s popularity is exactly the same as the “popular” Obama at this point in his presidency. Since you seem unwilling to attribute it to his common sense trade policies I'll give you some help. It might be the 3.8% unemployment rate he’s helped bring about. That's quite a bit lower than the 5.7% rate in Canada so you might want to listen and learn something. Or it could be how he presided over the collapse of the Islamic State group in Syria and Iraqi, or that he moved the American embassy in Israel to Jerusalem, or how he reformed veterans care, .... Take your pick.

Agreed--we've got more than enough to agree/disagree about with cars alone; politics has no place here.

// Sorry, missed your response.

It's a great car--truly! I'm running a EuroCharged tune installed/updated just this week by my local shop, Snohomish European. The numbers line up pretty nicely with the APR stage 2 from my RS7. Great drivers car, too--really engaging. Go test drive one, you'll love it!
