Winter Tires

I've been investigating the options for winter tires from various manufacturers. Unfortunately, I cannot find one brand/series that will be the correct size for the both the front and the rear tires. Michelin makes a 295-30/R20 in the Alpin PA4 series, but does not also have the corresponding size 265-35/R20 for the front. Dunlop has the 265-35/R20 but not the 295-30/R20. Same with Continental, Goodyear, Pirelli. Thoughts here as to a solution short of getting a rental car for the coldest months here in NC. I've never encountered this problem before with any other vehicle. Does Mercedes have a snow-package option (wheel+tire)?

Uff, I am in the same boat. I found the thread that bobblehead posted to be helpful but here's what I've found:
  • There are no 20" winter tires that fit the OEM rims. If they're out there, I couldn't find them, and I spent hours on this.
  • There are a number of solid 19" winter tires but, obviously, you'd need to step down to a 19" wheel and there aren't a ton of options. But...
  • I found DiscountTire.com has Mandrus Atlas 19x9.5 rims with 5x112 bolt pattern made for MB.
  • The OEM offset on the front wheels is 25mm and on the back 55mm. The Mandrus comes in 25mm offset and 53mm offset, pretty darn close.
  • Then I contacted Hakkapeliitta. Their new R3 tires are coming out very soon.
  • The Hakka 255/40R19 will go front and rear and, after I contacted Hakka, they confirmed that they would fit a 9.5" wheel just fine. There is a +1% speed difference on the front between the 20" summers and 19" winters according to WillTheyFit.com. The back has a -0.2% speed diff. Ride height is a few mm lower in front, under 1mm in back.
So that's my plan - Mandrus Atlas 19x9.5 wheels at $280 ea with 4 x Hakka R3s 255/40R19. I called DiscountTire a week or so ago, the new R3 tires are just starting production now, availability later this summer.

It’s pretty straightforward

I have a square setup. My snow tires are the same size as my front tires and I have them on all 4 stock wheels. I ran this setup last winter without any issues. There are Dunlop, pirelli and I think Bridgestone options in the 265 front size.

For Nokia R2, if you stay with 20", then you can consider going 255/35 front and 285/30 rear. One Canadian member here went with that

I'm using Nokian Hakkapeliitta 9 in 255/40-19, I just love these tires.. They are awesome and makes driving on snow and ice fun!

Some results from more investigation of tire ratio vs. rim width yielded some interesting observations. The OEM wheels are 9.5" x 20 front, 10" x20 rear. From the chart that I've appended, the ideal tire size is 265 for the front and rear. So for a square setup for the winter, one could mount 265-35/R20 all around and have a square setup using the OEM wheels.

Dunlop makes a performance winter tire ($316.85 on Tirerack ):
265/35R20
99V

Check my recent post. You can have Dunlop winter tires in the 265-35/R20 size all around to fit properly on the OEM rims.

I decided to purchase an additional set of OEM cross forged wheels from MB. Cut a deal for $9400 with tax. Tires will be 1350 with tax. I'll sell the wheels when I trade in the car in 3 years.

The alternative was to dismount the summer tires in November and mount the winter tires for use through March and then dismounting the winter tires and mounting the summer tires again. Charges for balancing each wheel and switching the tires on the same rims was around ,$125 each time not to mention the wear and tear on the wheels.

I will sell the wheels when I turn in the car in three years. I will probably recover 50% of the cost so not too bad overall.

CCB require 20", right? In which case I wonder if that winter tire package can be done for the 20" as well. Seems worth the price.

Pirelli winter Sottozero Serie II have both front and rear OEM sizes. 265/35 front and 295/30 rear. I know this for a fact because I use these on my F10 M5. You can’t find them on tire rack now because it is off-season I’m assuming.

Come Fall I’m sure tire rack or discount tire direct will have them in stock

I was told by tire rack that the Pirrelli's are discontinued and would not be back in stock.

Just checked with my parts Dept. Those numbers are for wheels only and are NOT orderable in the US. The parts manager checked with MBUSA and those part numbers are also for the previous E63S. They will have winter package by OCT, 2018 for the 2018 E63S.

Your dealer is wrong. Those are the w213 e63 offering since last winter. It’s the only winter package offered.

I bought the same wheels but opt for different tire sizing and brand

Not orderable in the US nor can it be obtained from another country by the parts Dept. This is not the first time that I've encountered this sort of idiocy by MBUSA. I'll have to wait for the right parts.

I'm in Colorado and I was able to order those rim part numbers (front part number: A2134012600, rear: A2134014600) from my dealer and I received them along with my 2018 E63S Wagon in November 2017. See my post in the "Winter Setup" thread with details here:
https://mbworld.org/forums/showpost....3&postcount=81

The dealers were clueless last winter regarding the appropriate winter setup for W213 E63S - it sounds like things have not improved since then. But I can tell you those rims worked perfectly for us last winter on our E63S.

I have a set, like new, for sale for 1500... Before I found out we were moving to Austin... I bought a set of 19 inch Michelin Alpin PA4s mounted on Gloss black, OEM like, Flow One F1s. They have less than 2k miles on them and performed very well in the snows of Germany. Pic attached...
