Another buyback/lemon? Options?

Jenny you forgot to include your area code . . .
My CEL came on again last night and this time stayed on. Car seems to be running OK. I'm hoping it will cycle off after a few more restarts.
Meanwhile I'm down in my garage looking for my code reader. Haven't used it in a while so will probably need to update the firmware to make sure it's got 2018 data.

MB promises to fix their cars under warranty and I am sure they would do that. That a buyback is even considered is part of the very strong US consumer protection laws.
If if you would be in Germany they would laugh at the thought of buying back a well used car. Not just MB, but Porsche, BMW or Audi as well. Simply wouldn’t happen.
The only issue is that they apparently haven’t figured out the issue at hand and it’s taking too much time to resolve this relatively minor problem. It doesn’t appear that these cars need replacement engines.

Code reader reports P0300 Multiple/Random Misfire Detected, P0301 Cylinder 1 Misfire Detected, and P0306 Cylinder 6 Misfire Detected.
Total of six codes found, two of each of the above. One set says stored and the other set says pending. If I understand the documentation correctly, the code when first detected is given a pending state. If during the second trip the code occurs again it is stored as permanent.
I'll try clearing the codes and see how long it takes for this to reoccur.

I had to bring my wagon back to the Mercedes after 4800 miles. CEL came on and the car ran rough. Took to the dealer and after a week it was fixed and now I'm up to 9K with no major issues. CEL did come on about a month ago for a few days and then cleared itself.

I didn’t think you would take it that personally since I’ve been making fun of you this whole time about you getting in and out of your drivers seat like you talked about in another thread. We can end it here. Have a good weekend Richard.

I'm on here for the information as well as the banter. You started off our interaction in a negative way. Lots of people care about what's going on with the repurchases even if you aren't. I've been speaking with nearly ten different members comparing notes for months. These cars are a huge thorn in the side for many reasons. I am not posting my specific details until my deal is 100% complete. It wouldn't be wise to do otherwise as this is a public place and all information is publicly searchable and available for good or bad. I'm sorry if you think it's ok to make everything into a personal joke but some of us are being serious. Making fun of personal appearance is not nice and I think that's where this needs to stop. Again, if you'd like to discuss the buybacks send me your number and I'll be happy to discuss it. Until my deal is done I'll leave it at that.

As of yesterday the car is gone. From what I understand it will head back to MB for more diagnostics.
Thinking I may grab an all road or used RS7 to hold me over.
So recap, I got everything back except .60 a mile . I should have had them document it at the first CEL. Let that be a lesson I guess. If you have a CEL, even if it resets and the car seems to operate as normal I would have them document it. Would have put another 4-5k back in my pocket

Wow that sucks you had to turn the car back. Sounds like others are starting to have this same check engine light issue too. Hopefully engineering at mb will come up with some kind of solution. I can’t believe they have not already. Sounds like some people in reliability test engineering are going to loose their jobs. That’s just **** poor engineering. As I posted on another thread, my CEL came back again. Same P0300, P0301, and P0306. Reset again last night to see how long before it trips again.
Today while driving to lunch the car started running rough and the CEL came on again. Turned the car off at the light and restarted and the CEL and rough running had gone away.
But, if the engine detects the misfire within the next drive or two, the light will come on again and stay on till reset.
So, guess I'll make an appointment to take it in after the next time the light comes on.
I truly hope they figure out the issue as I really love this car and after waiting a couple of years and ordering all options to my spec, don't for a minute want to have to go through the buy back process.

E634me, just do yourself a favor and bring it in to document it. There are a few people on here who reset just like you did and had the problem persist. The buyback is dated to the first time you bring it in with an issue. It could end up costing you $0.60 to $1.50 per mile of prorated mileage.

What do you think happens to these buy-back cars? Since they aren't technically lemon'd, the title is still clear, correct? Do you really think MB takes them and tries to run diagnostics on them, or do they just send them to auction and back out into the wild?
#125
I believe they are lemon'd. I image some will stay for diagnostics but there are cars for sale that have lemon titles. My local dealer has probably $1m worth of MB cars with these issues. A few S63s, a few E63s, and one C63. The numbers add up quick and i cant image MB would hold onto them if they were fixable.
