So the alpha Romeo is 7.32 and Porsche is 7.38

2018 E63S AMG
And the E63S sedan was what, in the 7:45ish territory given what the estate version turned.

That the E63S and the GT-63 are fairly close in power output and not that far off in weight, the handling of the GT-63 must be really impressive to shave off 20 seconds. Can't imagine that the 4-wheel steering alone accounts for the lions share of that. Wonder what other things they're doing to improve the handling?

The GT 63s is about the same weight as the E63s but has 630hp and 664 pound feet of torque. Apparently, the 4 wheel steering does significantly improve high speed handling. More power and torque, 4WS and wider tires (I've read that Sport Cup 2s can be optioned) probably equal those 20 seconds.

I never saw the E63S sedan time... only the wagon. Maybe someone here can locate it; if it exits.

Agreed, should have been more clear on that. Was just extrapolating from wagon time, hence the -ish ;-)

One (me for example) might think that the sedan ought to be able to shave a little off of the 7:45.19 s time the wagon posted, however I've had others posit that the wagon may have better balance and is actually slightly faster than than the sedan.

Let's say for discussion's sake the sedan is within +/- 1% of the wagon's time. That's 7:45.19 s +/- 4.65 s.

The GT-63 is then 24.43 s faster or or 15.13 s faster. Still a big chunk either way.

Or possibly the sedan's a fair bit faster, but not quite matching the Giulia, so Mercedes didn't want to publish the number.

Yeah, that's it, the E63S sedan is 0.1 s behind the Giulia and in reality only about 7 seconds behind the GT-63

I don't think that 7:25 is the fastest time set by a production sedan.

The record was broken last year by the Jaguar XE SV Project 8 which set 7:21

The record was set with the track package variant, which deletes the rear seats to save weight. Since "sedan" means four-seater with four doors, MB and others reject Jaguar's claim. On the other hand, the Giulia costs about 1/3 what the AMG GT 6.3S will, so I think it's in pretty good shape.

I agree... after watching the video GT63, I think the wagon was good for another 5sec... damn I want to drive the Ring!

Considering some of the people coming out of the GT’s press event were saying the GT is 200kg heavier than the e63 and that some instrument testing has shown it’s slower as a result in acceleration, there is probably some tire shenanigans going on. The E63’s 7:45 was on Superspsorts. I wouldn’t be surprised if the GT was on Sport Cups or some other track focused tire.

amg gt63 used factory tires Cup2. If you read articl in previous post above, you can notice keyword “optional”. For 700€ you can get cup2 tires from factory. That means gt63 was really on stock parts.
