Idiot dealer
Just tell them straight out, your mechanic dinged my wheel putting a new tire on....
Was pretty PO'd but ultimately decided not to bother about it as I figured it would be hard to prove. But if it had been something like bringing in the car for a tire change and discovering it right after that, I'd definitely have raised some hell.
It's so very careless.
I've had the same thing happen. scraped rim + damaged sidewall where a chunk of the tire was taken out.
One thing that was better than your dealer was that they notified me of the damage and eventually got everything squared out; refinished + repainted rim, sent to my detailer to reapply ceramic pro, and a new tire.
I had them draft a written letter and sign it detailing that they'll do all of that prior to leaving. Everything in writing, signed. They need to make you whole.
you may want to submit a letter to MB headquarters. They will reply.
edit: this was my experience. added picture

If you have a good dealer, they will take are of the curb damage even without admitting it as a bad service survey will cost them more than the repair.
Standard procedure for me is to take a quick pics of the 4 wheels before service. Takes all but a second. Then ask to have put on a seat cover (they have fabric ones); needed if you have light leather seats and the put masking tape on the door sill. Sounds **** but it keeps the car in the condition you gave it to them.
Good luck! The service survey give you leverage for these kinds of things.
I check my car when I drop it off.... and again on pick up...
I do feel sorry for the kid that did it because he probably was not trained properly how to do tires and/or handle car in respectful way.....
Way back when as a teenager working for a independant repair shop owned by a German guy first thing I learned was how to get in and out of car not to ding doors, fender covers, move belt buckle to my hip so as not to scratch.. etc etc.
Then it was how to move a broom properly...
they need to teach the basics again...
Now I try to be picky and methodical. Take timestamp photos of every angle of the car and then the door sills. After the job is done I will take my time with a visual inspection but it can happen that i will miss the fault so the pictures are essential.
Thank you
