What I think everyone is trying to say is that 53 and 43 is just a marketing gimmick for MB and not a real AMG performance car.
Just a watered down E63.
If it was a real AMG it wouldn't be limited to 130!
Anyway, I suggest a tune and it will be your solutions.

Agreed. If anything I want the E63s to be faster. So no, I wouldn't consider an E43/E53. Originally Posted by MuffinFlavored

But I don't buy into the real/vs fake argument. If Moers call them AMG, it is just that.

but you do agree that historically AMG was reserved for only the most powerful and fastest version of a car, and now that is no longer the case, correct?Originally Posted by Wolfman

Agreed, but that is still the case. They just broadened it. The E53 and E63s represent the most powerful and fastest version of the E-Class
There is no non-AMG model inbetween.Member

Don’t flatter yourself, you hijacked your own thread. In most enthusiasts eyes a 43/53/whatever-3 is sub-par compared to a 63. Yes, people may buy them for different reasons (budget constraints mainly) but the fact remains if I see you on the road in a 43/53 or a god damn 3 that doesn’t precede with a 6, in my eyes that is considered not a true AMG vehicle. That is my high school diploma opinion.Originally Posted by 348SStb

You can all all pile on the hatred and the nastiness if you want. But you’ve hijacked the thread and have not contributed to answering my question. Other people are also interested in exploring the question. I’d say you ought to have better things to do than to bully me. I won’t be bullied.
My Ivy League education doesn’t qualify me any more to speak on this topic then a law degree qualifies somebody else. Experience qualifies. And so does the standard decency of allowing someone the prerogative to create a thread and stick to topic.

OP doesn't own any 63 AMG's, just my opinion based on his defense of the 53 models. Lmao this thread is a good laugh

My Ivy League reference was a response to somebody who first referenced his profession as a lawyer. The point of that is it doesn’t matter a person’s background. Naturally you didn’t see that given the amount of itelligence you display.
The second point is that it should be obvious that I don’t need a 63 to make my dick bigger, but apparently for many folks that is pecisley the case hence the denigration of the 53.
You're very much overmatched- try to say something intelligent or polite instead of attacking me. You’ve attacked me and I’ve responded.

How many of you pin heads have ever lost a tire at 120 mph and thought if only you could go over 130 mph, it would be so much more fun ?

I can defend myself. But many others cannot or might be adversely affected by the attacks. I defend myself to defend those other people hoping that some of the attackers here will think twice before doing it to somebody else.
OP and everyone else has answered the basic question OP asked. That is why is MB/AMG limiting the E53 to 130mph? MB is marketing the hell out of the AMG brand and has decided to water down (atleast from traditional standards) the thought of one man one engine by offering great cars like the E53 (that are not the tradtional AMG cars) but it is no E63 and therefore has broadened the range of AMGs that would not have traditionally been AMGs.
The funny thing about this thread is the OP thinking. Or should I say “I am not sure what the OPs real purpose is with this thread”. OP must be mad about something. But like a previous poster said—this is the internet with different opinions. Live with it.

Don’t ***** about a low speed limit in a poser AMG53. If you want to go fast then get the hand built twin turbo V8 and shell out the cash. Speed costs money.....how fast do you want to go?

Wow...this was an interesting read!
As someone with two AMGs (C63 507 edition and a GT-C) and having spent much time on various Autobahns, here is some food for thought:
I have driven the C63s, E63S, GTS and Audi S6 on various Autobahns. The S6 and 43 models are neck and neck under full throttle acceleration. I witnessed this first hand on the A63 down to Kaiserslautern.
The E63S is an absolute monster that not much can keep up with at wide open throttle. I pulled on a few Supercars while there and was quite shocked: GT3, 458 Speciale, Audi RS6 Performance. They could not keep up when we went from a 130 Km/hr zone to an unrestricted zone.
So, as someone pointed out here:
The 43/53 models are designed to compete with the Audi S line and BMW 330i/550i lines. MB has stated that numerous times and any sales person will tell you where MB is marketing those models.
The 63 models are designed to compete with the Audi RS line and BMW M lines.
Now, what constitutes an AMG? As someone said here, go take the AMG tour in Affalterbach and you will see. 🙂 It was EXTREMELY enlightening! As my tour guide asked me, "Would you ever consider an All Electric car an AMG?" It's an interesting question as what defines an AMG? History, Sound, Power, Vehicle Dynamics, Exclusivity, an AMG Badge, having your vehicle built in Germany (Sindelfingen, Bremen) or America (Tuscaloosa), or is it something else or a combination of many things...? We had a 10 minute conversation about that one. Needless to say, AMG are ready for when the world decides we need all Electric vehicles!
As to the OP original question about the 130 MPH limiter (210 Km/hr), that is a good question considering the S6 is limited to 155 MPH (248 Km/hr) and the BMW 550i is limited to 130 MPH or 155 MPH with a package. So it seems that it is more of a marketing criteria to match the 550i vs. mechanical limitation. Enjoy all of your vehicles OP. Hopefully, you are in a warm climate and can drive your vehicles year-round. Us folk up North are waiting for Spring! 🙂
Happy driving all.

Sooooooooo
I have a new subset of questions
Interested to know which of the following best suits thread participants:
Option A: “I enjoy the idea of a 130 mph speed limiter on the AMG E53.”
Option B: “I do not enjoy the idea of a 130 mph speed limiter on the AMG E53.”
Option C: “I decline to choose A or B, but I do choose to point out that the AMG E53 is not an AMG vehicle.”

I shouldn’t have to thank you for being polite and considerate of the questions I actually asked, but I will anyway! Thanks!

Frankly - interesting "opinions" - but as answered by a previous factual post - which was not acknowledged by the more emotionally opinionated expressing themselves here.
US Fed regulations mandate factory rated top vehicle speed cannot exceed the manufacturer's US tire speed rating selected for that vehicle - a Fed "safety" thing mandated on auto manufacturers - and frankly not a MB/AMG conspiracy thing - gee's guys..
130-149-168-186 - are familiar sounding #'s to this enthusiast audience - yes ?
So your "issue" pivots to the manufacturer's tire selection for the US model - H-Rated 130mph are available All-Season tires - V/149mph are avail All-Season or High-Performance/"Summer " depending on tire manuf and tire size - W/168mph and Y/186mph are "high performance/"summer" tires.
Now... in general terms under US Federal warranty protection - "flashing a tune" to a ECU technically void the manufacturers warranty on that ECU - and exceeding the manufacturers vehicle speed limit technically put the liability on whatever mechanically happens over the manufacturers original speed limit directly on your shoulders - but heck, that's sure understandable isn't it ?
