Occasional Hesitation / Surging in comfort mode

Has anyone experienced this issue with their E63S? I had this happen a few times but seems to limited to comfort mode. My car surged fell on its face then jerked a few times as it tried to decide what to do on man onlamp. I wanted to see what the situation is or if am the only one suffering this.

Maybe the change from cylinder deactivation back to 8?

Havent experienced what you describe but my car is sometimes a little slow to go back to firing on all 8.

No Idea. I am making an appointment to get it checked. I only have 620 miles. I was told an S63 Coupe sold new recently had exact same issue. Who knows?

The surging does not feel like transmission issue, and only happens in Comfort mode. It feels more like on off uncommitted power delivery to me. Could be MCT too. I had this same issue on the C63S and it was fixeds with a software update. So we shall see and will update the forum what fix was.

if it is only comfort mode, it really sounds like cylinder deactivation/glide mode

can you recreate it in comfort with the auto start feature (on the right of the trackpad wheel thing) off?

Yes I hate the auto off feature. Totally useless. But to answer your question yes it happens with that off. This is like coming from aside street slowly at a metered light and yiou get green and want to merge quickly. Kind of dangerous if you were expecting power and it falls on its face. I usually drive in sports or sports+ only. Only reason to use comfort is crappy city streets.

I've had one or two instances of the car not responding when the accelerator was depressed in Comfort mode. This was not turbo lag. Rather it seemed it was more of a computer issue where it was trying to figure out what to do. Almost like in ye olde days before fuel injection on a cold day when a carbureted car's automatic choke wasn't set right and the car hesitated due to fuel starvation when cold.

Exactly E634Me. Its not Turbo lag. I have had everything from Mitsubishi Eclipse Turbo to BMW 335i to C63S to now E63S and its not Turbo lag. Its exactly what you describe. Software issue and if it happens at the wrong time its dangerous. Happened on merge with another car coming up on me from the left lane. The car literally jerked around as it lost power then surged as it went into overun follwed by another power loss before it finally kicked down and went.

My C63S had this issue and it was fixed with a software update for the transmission. I dont know if the E63S is also transmission because it almost feels like it wanted to stall it might be something else.

is this the same problem that is very infamous on w218 cls63 amg (which has the 7 speed MCT, right?) (and even w212 it seems)?

Might be. I heard a guy with a new S63 came back complaining of the same exact thing. My C63S also had this issue, and I got software update that fixed it. It was transmission issue. Its slightly different in the E63S so I hesitate to say its the same thing. Car probably going back to shop next week.

Was this resolved? I'm starting to experience this on my 2018 E63S in Comfort mode.

My girlfriend's GLC43 does the same thing...it really almost completely loses power in the same situation, enough to be dangerous when merging or changing lanes. MB dealer is stating they don't know what it is and can't replicate it. She did some web searches and found lots of MB cars experiencing this. Seems like MB is sticking their heads in the sand.

I have no idea what the root cause is - I just assumed it was a function of the mode - keep soccer moms from unintentionally unleashing 600+ hp in the Whole Foods parking lot. My Ferrari FF drives the same way in comfort mode. I just drive in sport and never have a complaint.

I'm having a similar issue. From a stop I get a lot of surging/hesitation until I get moving. This is in comfort mode. Engine temp doesn't seem to make a difference. The surging/hesitation isn't a lot, but it definitely won't do a smooth start like almost any other automatic I've driven.

That's the wet clutch engaging ... wish the 63 had a torque converter
